Shortened cervix

Hello ladies, I am 40 yrs old, 16 weeks pregnant and just received some news that is heartbreaking and worry some. I was admitted to the labor and delivery unit yesterday to have a rescue cerclage. Baby is doing evert hinges he's supposed to do, but my cervix is not. I'm down to 1.5cm my question is,is there anyone that has,had this procedure or know anyone that has with a success rate? I will spend the remainder of my pregnancy on strict hospital bed rest. I have it done Thursday. The 1st mile marker is to make it to 24weeks. Not much of a cryer...always the need to be strong..it's the Aries in me,but I just can't stop. Any input or encouragement is welcome.

Im in my 3rd pregnancy with a cerclage, my first one was placed as an emergency at 16 weeks. Then strict bedrest tell 37. And went to 42 :-).  My 2nd was placed at 13 weeks with 3 months bedrest, made it to 41 weeks. This one was placed at 11 with a month of light activities, currently 27 weeks and everything is holding with nightly 200mgs progesterone, and 600mg ibuprofen every six hours! You can totally handle this, i know its really not fun! But totally worth it in the end! Good luck mama and have faith!

I've never had it happen but had three preemie babies so my midwife has me stay the P17 shots at16 weeks to stop my cervix from changing and with my last it worked great and with this one I hope it will work as well or else I will be in the same boat as you. Good luck I've heard of women carrying into 37+ weeks having this done.

I had my 1st son at 27weeks due to a shortened cervix. He's now just turned 6 and is a very healthy happy boy. My last 2 pregnancies I had a stitch put in at 13 weeks and closely monitored but made it to 38 weeks with both of them. I'm now expecting baby #4 and doctors have decided not stitch me this time. My cervix has ranged between 3.5 and 2.4 (2.4 being today's measurement) and the shortest it's been so far (currently 23+1wks). Having a stitch and shortened cervix is extremely worrying however I have a friend who's cervix was 1.6 and she made it to 36 weeks without a stitch. So keep positive and remember that every single day that passes and your bub is still staying put is a great thing! Best of luck with it all :)

Sorry for the delay in updates, I had my cerclage,it's been 8 days and no cramping, discharge, bleeding or contractions.Had my sono this past Monday and I'm currently at 1.9cm and still funneling with a V shape not the U shape I started with, which was the worst, also found out I have a prolapse uterus. I'm still in the hospital on strict bed rest. They started me on the 17P(progesterone)  shots once a week, also taking clindamyocine(antibiotic) one a week 3times a day. Fetal heart tones are great, between 145 to 160. No amniotic leakage... Baby Jackson is quite active. Hoping I make it to my milestone week 24. The doctors don't think I will make it to 37 weeks,do I will start steroid shots around 21 weeks, a little scared of that because I'm a type 1 diabetic, but I have great control 5.6 A1c. I'll keep everyone updated, as I find out more.

That sounds very hard and scary. Hope you have a lot of help and are stocked up with things to occupy your mind while on bedrest (besides worry).

I have a weak cervix and required a circlage. I had mines done at 13 weeks. I have been on bedrest since the beginning of this pregnancy. And eventually cervix started opening and the circlage was initially a prophylactic. But then they realized my cervix was weak and I was funneling. Hopefully it will do its job and keep this baby inside. I lost two pregnancies and now pregnant with twins so even more concerning. It was a weird procedure as I have never had any prior medical procedures. But take it easy and good luck. It's really hard but I pray god will get me through this.

I was told my cervix are short and funneling also. I'm at 1.6 as of now and 30 weeks. I'm a little scared myself but I'm a little further along than you are. Please keep me posted on your progress.
