Smoking and IUI

Okay, question...I did an IUI on Friday 2/20 and find out of 3/6 if we're preg.  Until the IUI I only smoked 3-5 a day.  Is it okay to smoke one a day or less until we find out?  I KNOW i have to quit after that but we dont' even know yet so I'm having a hard time not smoking.  Advice?

I smoked years ago and I know how hard it is to give up but I am telling you have to do it and do it now. Just finish your pack and look forward to the bright future ahead. Its all in the mind that's for sure.

I am a smoker and just quit last week and I am now in my 9th week of pregnancy.  I cut down gradually from a pack a day to less then half a pack to less then 5 a day to 1 a day and now I am not smoking at all.  You're much better off then I was.  I have heard that it is best to quit smoking if you can but cutting down is good especially if it will cause you less stress then quitting cold turkey.  The sooner you quit the less regrets you will have after the baby is born.  Another thing is if you have been trying to get pregnant then you need to go ahead and quit because smoking before getting pregnant causes problems with the development of your placenta and the fetus.  It doesn't just hurt to smoke during pregnancy.  It's so very hard to quit and people who have never smoked have no understanding.  It is my opinion to stay away from Chantix.  Cutting down before quitting would be better.  At least nicotine is a known drug as is the effects of smoking during the first trimester.  I would take my chances with the known before I would Chantix.  It's a class C drug which means it could cause problems.  Good luck....I know exactly how you feel.

Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes.    Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you.  I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking.

Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay.   I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.

Seriously try the chantix...it's about $130 prescription, but that's probably cheaper than a months' worth of cigarettes.

I've never been a smoker, but I can only imagine how extremely hard it would be to cut down and stop altogether...but if there was ever a time to stop, it would be now.  Don't take the risk.  If you find out you are pregnant on 3/6, wouldn't it be refreshing to know you quit smoking and started out the pregnancy fresh and healthy?  Don't do it, just say no! : ) Your baby deserves it and so do you!

I would go with no..... not only does the nicotine raise bp, but why risk anything you may question later? GOOD LUCK!
