Starving, but nothing sounds good!

HI everyone,

I'm 8 weeks today, and I have not had any morning sickness at all, but over the past week or so, I've been feeling super hungry, yet NOTHING sounds good! I'll be looking through the pantry over and over again and not find anything to eat! Oh and I know I should be eating more fruit and vegetables right now, but vegetables just do not sound appertising AT ALL. Fruit's OK. Did anyone else experience this, and if so, how long did it last?

I was the same too.  Like someone else said, crackers were a Godsend for me as were salt and vinegar chips!! And tomato juice was great.
Like others have said, you kind of have to just go with the flow and be eat what you can for the time being.

Barb, I have had insane bloating throughout and I'm now 13w4d. No matter what I eat and no matter how much, I end up looking like I'm nearing the end of my 3rd trimester!!!  Funny though it can be at times, it is often very uncomfortable and also gets to the point of pain at times. Yesterday, I just wanted someone to stick a pin in me so I could deflate!

Barb, I totally know what you mean about feeling full and uncomfortable after eating. I'm soooo bloated nowadays, I actually went out and bought a couple of shirts a size bigger than normal :-)

So when will you be having that ultrasound to check of your sister's right?

Hi Heather.  I experienced the same thing for the first few weeks.  I am only 6 weeks along and just this week, I feel like I can stomach food.
The first 5, NOTHING sounded good!  And, I normally can eat anything and everything!  Grapes, apples, and pasta were about the only things that remotely sounded decent.
This week, it's much better.
One thing I did notice is even when I'd eat the smallest amount, I'd feel so extremely full and uncomfortable for hours!.  Has anyone else had that?  My sister said, "maybe you're having twins"! YIKES!

Thanks, everyone! Good to know I'm not alone! I actually ended up going to Taco Bell earlier. I know fast food is not the best option right now, but I was just so hungry and that was the only thing that sounded good to me at the time. I picked up some fruit on the way back, though, so at least I'm "evening it out" a bit with something healthy too. LOL!

bny: I'm still OK with rice, but I can't stand the thought of steamed broccoli, which I used to love! Too bad, since broccoli would have actually been good for me ;-) Oh well...

Thanks again, guys!

i know exactly what your going through!!! i was and still am the same way! (at 16 weeks!!) i am always starving, it wakes me up in the middle of the night.. to either get sick or eat or sometimes both haha.. I agree fruit seems to be the easiest.. i eat an apple right before bed since the fiber in it helps keep me a little more full for longer.. otherwise i ate what i could.. ice cream or a milkshake someimtes becuase i was afraid i wasn't getting enough calories when i get real sick. guacamole and chips i can usually do as well.. at least the guacamole is healthy!. its funny adgal mentions rice.. i usually love rice. but for some reason the past 16 weeks it just smells and tasts rotten.. its so wierd!!

The first trimester is the roughest!! I would suggest at this point to try and eat whatever you can stomach.  I spent most of my first trimesters with both of my pregnancies eating crackers and drinking gatorade.  I know this is not the best diet, but fortunately after a little while you will soon be wanting to eat again and if you are like me you will be hungry all the time!!!!

Just make sure to keep taking your prenatal vitamin so you can still get your nutrients from that!!!!

Food aversion is normal.  I actually had my first taste of it this morning when I gagged over a cup of coffee (decaf).  I would eat whatever is appealing right now, although try to keep it as healthy as possible.  Maybe mild things like pasta or rice?  and if fruit is ok for you, load up on that!!  Good luck to you.
