DP has to be tested now, adding to list of concerns. He does not come back to Boston until Oct. 8th...more waiting. If he carries the gene as well, we have a 25% chance of baby having it.
Ufff....what's next?! Hopefully , this will be the worse issue we have considering I have not even hardly begun with these genetic/trisomy, etc tests.
I am also a carrier - I actually knew there was a good chance of it though as I had a cousin with CF (he passed in 1987 at age 21). My DH was tested and is not a carrier - so that put our odds at 1 in 900 or something like that, which I'll take over 1 in 4!! The reason that they put it at 900 is because they only test for the most commonCommon cold 21 strains (or something like that) so they cannot be completely 100% positive that DH isn't a carrier of another strain. But DD is fine! Hopefully when your partner comes back and is tested he will be negative and your mind will be at ease!!
I had the same thing happen during my pre-screening testing. I am 100% eastern European Jew, and my husband is 100% Middle Eastern Jew. I am a carrier of the CF gene, and he is not. Because I was a carrier, when our first daughter was born one of the test was for CF, she came back positive, and we needed to have a sweat test done on our 2 week old daughter. It was the longest hour of my life at that point...since then we have had many trying times....she was negative, and she too like me is only a carrier (in every way that is the only thing she got from me!). When she gets to the age of the birds and bees talk...that is going to be my big deterrent...I hope it will work!!!! She is only seven, but I am a planner!!!!
I know it is hard to hear, but don't get too stressed, the odds are so low. Did you find out of your partner is positive yet? Keep us posted!
Boy you just can't catch a break can you. Just try to stay focused on that fact that IF DP has the gene as well, there is still a 75% chance this little one is healthy as can be. You know, sometimes I wish we lived back in a time where they couldn't test for any of this stuff....maybe ignorance really is bliss. I know these tests are good as they allow us to prepare for things if necessary, but most of the time there is nothing to worry about, know what I mean? And they just add more stress then they eleviate. And never ever apologize for posting lots...post away hon, that is what we are here for!!
