Trisomy 18

I am 36 and just went for an 18 week ultrasound.  The baby is measuring just fine but my blood test for Trisomy 18 was slightly higher than normal. They found a Choroid Plexus Cyst in my baby girls head but no other markers at all and the baby is measuring normal on every part of her body.  Dr stated that my maternal age and the CPC's put me at slighter risk for Trisomy 18.  I did an amnio and am waiting on results and am anxious, emotional and scared that my baby has this chromosomal abnormality.  In all of the literature that i read so far on line it says that if there are no other markers or abnormalities then the baby should be just fine and the CPC's should go away at about 24-26 weeks.  Should i be stressing myself out over this or should i really be concerned?

My 2.5 year old daughter also had those cysts, and the baby girl i'm carring now also had them (I'm 32w 2d).  In both cases the cysts did dissappear. I wish you the best - the emotional rollercoaster is definately not easy.  The US tech this time was very reassuring to us, she made a point of telling us that she sees those cysts pretty regularly and they almost always go away.

Sorry I'm getting back to you so late. If you scroll down towards the bottom of the page, on the right side you'll see "related expert forums".  It's directly underneath related communities - click on the pregnancy link & it will take you to that forum.  That's the expert one - the maternal/child forums (there are two) are in the related communities.  The trouble is that the forum for the experts is usually full - you have to keep trying until there's a spot open.  You have some good questions and I hope that you get your answers as quick as possible.  Try not to stress too much (easier said that done, I know) & take care....

I wish I had answers for your questions.  Unfortunately, I don't but it sounds like from what you read your baby will be okay.  Have you posted your questions on any other forum like maternal/child?  There's also an ask-an-expert forum where you can ask the doctor  - I wish you good luck & hope everything turns out fine!
