Vitamin D supplement

My Dr told me at my second prenatal visit that my vitamin D count was low and that I needed to take 1000 mg everyday along with my prenatal.  In my first pregnancy I didn't have this so I eventually stopped taking my prenatal vitamins but with this pregnancy I was starting to slack with the prenatal again until my Dr told me to take my prenatal along with Vitamin D. I've been diligent with taking my vitamins since.  Has anyone else been Vitamin D deficient and had to take a supplement?  If so, did baby come out healthy?  Thx.

Thank u for your replies.  ShannyO I will look into the vitamin ur recommending.  And Mumma, do u mean 5000iu of vitamin D per day? I'm thinking I should just up my dosage since all the research suggests more.

Mine was really low this time so he recommended 5x 1000iu daily and said he would retest again after 20wks but hasn't as yet (21wks now). I fear my son is too but as he's now 14mths and transitioned to cows milk my dr said to get him one that has added vitamin d and try to take him out in the garden for at least 10minsa day as his needs are lower then ours.

Another great supplement to take while pregnant along with your prenatal is omega-3. My doctor recommended Nordic Naturals prenatal dha tabs. They have 400 units in each tab of vitamin d. I take it twice a day along with my prenatals that also have 1000 units. Plus the dha is promotes healthy brain, eyes, & bones for baby as well as support a healthy mood for momma.

Vitamin D is good for your bones even after the baby is born. Stay on top of it. You don't want to end up with osteoporosis when you get older.

How many iu is ur supplement?  My Dr recommended 1000iu but I've been reading that I should be taking more.  I'm also starting to think that my son is also Vitamin D deficient and perhaps I should give him Vitamin D supplement as well, but I'm going to request a blood test from his pediatrician first, but I'm almost positive that he is since I am.  I'm a little worried about the long term effects of being vitamin D deficient.  so I wanted to know other people's experience.  Thank u for ur reply..

Yes, I've had it both times. First time I just took the supplement and baby was fine, however it was identified as one of the many reason I had trouble breastfeeding. This time I'm taking the supplement again and if it's still low at 28wks my dr said he'll give me an injection.
