My hospital does it, its more if your doctor can and is able\willing to do it. My doctor specialized in it. I didnt do it, but it was an option. You have to rent a tub though! Good luck!
OMG, scary. Poor little guy. I just saw an episode of the Duggars where someone was giving birth in a tub at home. I wondered if they bleached their tub! That explains why hospitals won't do it. Too risky.
My friend had a water birth and although her son was born healthy and she labored easier in the water, her son ended up contracting an almost deadly staph infection from being born in the water. Her newborn son was in the nicu for 2.5 months fighting for his life as the infection was eating away at his flesh. He has a scar on his abdomen that stretches from his chest covering his whole abdomen from the staph infection. It's very unsanitary to have a water birth due to how easily bacteria/germs in general travel through water. I believe laboring in the water is beneficial to the mother, but having birth in it is poses major health risks to both the baby and mother. I wouldn't do it knowing how deadly the consequences can be.
I labored in tub but usually hospitals won't allow birthing in the tub. You could look into a birthing center or get equipment, doula, midwife, etc & do the water birth at home if you're comfortable with that. I wanted a hospital birth but everybody is different. Laboring in tub with jets was great. It really helped with relaxation & pain management. You can watch a water birth on YouTube if you're interested. Lol
