Water breakage

I am approximately 38 weeks pregnant with my second child and 3cm dialated. I'm not sure what I am currently effaced to, however, my ob/gyn could feel the amniotic sac. My husband and I are concerned that intercourse could result in my water breaking. Is this a realistic fear, or is it 'safe' to proceed?

Yes it is realistic that it could break during sex. You really cannot control when it will break or if it will break at all.  If you don't want to induce by accident, then I would avoid things that could possibly trigger it. But I wouldn't stress about avoiding everything that is a possibility.

Also I don't want to induce, frankly, the longer I am able to postpone the delivery the better.
I would appreciate a certified ob/gyn professional's opinion as they should be well studied in this area.

So again, although intercourse (along with spicy food and walking) is said to induce labor, is it a realistic fear that my water will break during the act, taking into consideration that I will be dialating, or should we cease and desist?

If the doc didnt say other wise go for it. Put it this way we tried to induce with sex and by thetime my waters went the midwife could see her hair! Id dilated that much painlessly! I was 5cm when the real contractions started. Plus your full term anyway so even if they do go your good.
