A nurse from my doctor's office just called me to schedule an u/s because my beta's are very high. At 20 dpo: 2,768 and progest. 12.4, and at 22 dpo beta was 5,393 and progest. was 15.8. I really don't understand all this beta numbers and what they mean. Are those bad numbers I'm getting?

No, they aren't bad at all.  In fact they are well on the high side of normal ("ll post a chart for you after this post).

A beta/hcg tests for the hormone hcg which is typically only produced when pregnant.  Dr's will often monitor them and what they are looking for is the amount of time it takes them to increase, or double.  In a healthy pregnancy, in the early stages, your hcg level typically doubles every 48 to 72 hours.  As it get's higher the doubling time slows down, eventually leveling off and even dropping a little bit.  HCG levels rising slowly, or dropping are often an indicator of a miscarriage (in the early stages of pregnancy).  So congrats, you have a healthy pregnancy!  Your numbers are a bit high, but the range of normal is huge as you'll see below.  High hcg levels can be an indicator of multiples, although it's certainly not diagnostic.

Hope that helps!

Here you go.  As you can see the level of normal is huge.  The number itself is not what's important, but that they are increasing properly, which yours are.  I bet they are wondering about twins with you.  Good luck!

Thank you adgal, this really brings peace of mind. I will be happy even if it's just one. A healthy one!

Thanks

I think your numbers look great!!!  I agree with adgal, they may be thinking twins or want to verify your dates.  Your numbers are doubling well so I wouldn't worry!!!
