When do you plan on finding a pediatrician?

Everyone keeps telling me I need to find a pediatrician, but I'm only 19 weeks. So, I was courious what everyone else's thoughts are on this. Are you going to wait until you are closer, or do you already have someone?

Well, we are delivering at 36-37 weeks, so maybe I best get busy. I know there is a pediatrician less than 5 mins down the road from me. Maybe I will start by looking that one up and making sure she is a good one.

I decided on a pedi at 39 weeks.  Just make sure you have one selected by the time you go into labor.

The way I found a dr was by looking at the list of pediatricians that my insurance co has in its network and I limited that list by zipcode.  Then I looked at the Best Pediatricians list in my city and narrowed it down to one.

My OB provided me with pamphlets of the pediatricians in my area. I read over them and went with a group practice of 4 doctors. My OB told me to decide no later than 30 weeks in case (God Forbid) baby came very early.   My daughter is now almost 3 and I love her ped. I will be using the same practice for this baby.

Thank you, that was so helpful! When I had my other 2 kids (now 14 &15) the Dr that cared for me and delivered them also was their pediatrician. But he has retired now and they just go to my GP. SO, I was pretty stressed about this. I guess I should start calling around and setting up apts.

The earlier you start looking, the better. It took me forever to decide on a pediatrician. I dont know how it is where you are but here we were able to setup  a time to tour the offices and meet the doctors which was great. Also when I took the hospital tour at 5 months I was able to complete the paperwork so I didnt have to worry about it again. I am 19 weeks with my second and will be having him at a different hospital but I am lucky that my current pediatrician goes there. It does seem early but you are just about half way. Congratulations!
