baby aspirin

Hello ,

I just bought a bottle of baby aspirin - actually, low dose aspirin 81mg.  Its been highly recommended by others I've met on MedHelp and I figure since its worked for others - hmmm, why not ?  I haven't asked my doctor about it yet but, I've read a little info online. Just wondering  if any of you are taking it, how long , when to start ( pre-pg or after bfp ) and if you think it has helped/helping you.  Just wanted to know what is the purpose exactly ?  I've read it helps with implantation ( don't know why) and also something about clotting ( ??).  Could anyone give some more insight ? I'm not the type that likes to take medicine of any kind / or strength so now I'm second guessing myself about taking this. I know , I know,  its low dose and people are taking regular strength daily for their heart.....I  had bought it with the thought of "I'll try anything to get pg" but I don't want to do anything out of desperation. Maybe if I read some "testimonials" or explanations - it'll ease some of the worry.  Thanks soooo much !

Hi , thanks for all that info - I learn alot here.  I didn't get a BFP yet - I believe I just ovulated and took advantage of that time.  My bbt is up but, I'm waiting 2 long weeks to see if  AF shows up and if not ,  will torture myself and take a hpt a week or two later.  Its the strong surge of hope that is making me to sometimes imagine pg symptoms. I am trying hard not to fall for these thoughts so I don't set myself up for disappointment.  I don't dare to hope yet until two weeks - (baby steps baby steps....).Then I'll take in another deep breath and hold it for another two.....Its going to be a long wait.

I was in the U.S.(NJ) and saw ovulation prediction kits at the Dollar Tree - they even have a website so you can order merchandise online.  So cheap ! A buck !   Since my cycles are irregular - I didn't stock up. I figure too many tracking systems is just going to drive me crazy.

Hi-- my dose was 81mg 1x/day **with food**... my RE's plan was to only use it in the first trimester until there was lots of good blood flow to the placenta -- I was nervous about stopping it early but it definitely could have been the reason for the small bit of bleeding under the placenta so I'm glad I did.

Mine is an IVF pregnancy so I was also on progesterone suppositories (which can be critically important if your body isn't producing enough) and a very low dose of metformin although I don't have blood sugar problems-- it seems to help the body focus on the reproductive hormones rather than the metabolic hormones.  You may not need any of this stuff since you've already got your BFP but thought I'd share since you're seeing the Dr. anyway.

Hi Everyone,

Wow, thanks for all your comments / testimonials - I think I ovulated and been bd'ing so I started taking the 81mg low dose aspirin just in case. YogaChick, I'll keep your experience in mind and will make an appointment to talk to my doctor about it.  I have to go in for a blood test anyway - my OB had mentioned something about blood clotting and other tests to find possible causes of m/c's.  I'm on my third day on this "delayed-released" tablets. I couldn't find the children's aspirin on the shelf - they brought me to the low dose and said it was the same.  Just curious - what is the dose of ASA for children's aspirin ? Is it 81mg also ?   Again , thank you all for your help - much appreciated !

To those taking the adult low dose 81mg - there is a warning on the box/bottle that says : Do not take in third trimester of pregnancy.

I take baby asprin as well.  The testing after my losses didn't show any issues with blood clotting, but my OB says it can't hurt, so I take it.  She said they prefer about 3 months prior to conceiving. I think I have been on it since Dec. or so and conceived this baby in May. I still take 1 a day and will until the end of the pregnancy.  You should run it by your Dr. though, although I am certain they will say no problem.

You might also want to consider fish oil.  I read a fair amount about how some in the medical community now believe it may have a link to preventing miscarriage.  I have been taking it this whole pregnancy and as you know, this is the first one that has stuck.  Who knows if that is why, but it certainly isn't doing any harm and is good for the brain development anyway.  In addition I take my prenatals (high in folic acid), iron and calcium...so far so good!

I am taking baby aspirin, folic acid and B6 and B12 now, and I am 12w4d pregnant right now after 2 m/cs in a row. It really helps.
Good Luck!

I took one a day with food for a week or 2 before my embryo transfer and through the 8th or 10th week of pregnancy when my Dr. found a clot under the placenta and suggested I stop the aspirin so that the bleeding would not get worse.  For that reason, I'd recommend you take it under Drs orders and supervision so if something odd happens they can take you off of it to prevent the problem from getting worse...

The low dose kids chewable comes in strawberry or orange flavored asprin.  My dr told me that I could take those or the adult low dose.  I picked up the orange the first month and it was horrible so I would just swallow those but than I found the strawberry ones and they are pretty good.

Hi there!  I am another one on daily baby aspirin.

I went to a fertility clinic back in Dec. to discover why I had one blighted ovum and one chemical.  My RE told me to start taking baby aspirin as a precaution.  I didn't because I was afraid of taking unnecessary medications.  I conceived in December but had another chemical in January.  I then found out that I have high antibodies in my blood that may have contributed to my losses.  Baby aspirin would have helped me for implantation.

I've been taking it since January and am now also on progesterone and fragmin injections for blood thinning.

Good luck, I really hope it helps you!

I am also on it, and i defintely believed it helped us get and stay pregnant.. we did fertility treatments (injections and IUI's ) for a year.. anytime it did work we miscarried (4 times) the FIRST month i took the 81mg asprin + B6, B12 and extra folic acid, we shockingly got pregnant naturally! and have stayed pregnant for the first time - 30 weeks now! :)   they did however find out that i do have a clotting disorder.. however there is apparently a big study underway - that they are ending two years earlier than planned, due to the amazing success of asprin with conception in "infertile" couples and lower mc rates.. even in people without diagnosed clotting disorders! So i'm a big fan for sure! :)  GOOD LUCK, i hope thats the missing link! : )

udbe2 - I just buy the adult low-dose aspirin and I swallow it.  What do you mean orange vs. strawberry? I'm curious ;)

My RE just has me taking it for a just in case due to reoccurring multiple m/c's.  All my blood work came back normal however he told me that it can't hurt.  I take one every day and started 2 months ago after last m/c so I can't really say if it's helped or not yet conceive or carry one to term.

I found the strawberry to taste better than the orange but I suppose it's a preference in taste. lol

Good luck.

I have been taking it for a few years now and will continue to take it (especially with the new research that was published about it helping with some cancer cures)....

I can't say whether or not it assisted in getting me pregnant, but I do believe with all my heart that it didn't hurt to be taking it!

Good luck and keep us posted ;)

It prevents clotting and helps wih implantation.  I would check with your physician before you start.

My Bo & RE told me to take it "just in case"  I had all sorts of b/w done after my last mc & they came back normal.
You can start taking it whenever......but for the purpose to help w/conception, they want you on it BEFORE you conceive.  It helps keep the blood flowing better in you female organs which can help when the fertilized egg attatches to the uterus.
& for prevention of mc's it does the same, keeps the flow better & blood a little thinner so it won't clot.  If the blood clots, then the baby stops developing, they won't be getting their nutrients etc.......

I'm sure you can take it w/no issues, but just in case I would at least tell your DR that you are.
Good luck! ;)
