bleeding/7 wks but measured 5 wks

I have been bleeding for almost 3 days now but not so heavy as to soak a pad.  I wne to the dr., and they found a gestational sac but no baby yet. I should have been 7 weeks but sonogram showed 5 wks.  I am really nervous because 2 years agao, I had a miscarriage.  I have had two normal pregnancies but never had bleeding with them.  Is it possible to bleed like this-(not really crampy) be behind in weeks and still be pregnant?  I have another appt. a week from Monday, but this is driving me nuts.  Any personal stories would be great.

Thanks for the comments. I am still bleeding but not really onto the pad.  It seems to only show when I wipe.  It is pretty bright red but not really clotted. I just really don't know what to think at this point.  Unfortunately, I am not that positive because I have had a miscarriage in the past.  Any other thoughts or experiences would be great.  It feels good to not be alone in all of this.

I had 2 normal pregnancies without bleeding. This time I used IVF (donor eggs) and I have spotted on and off for over 2 weeks. Always small amounts, no cramps. I have ultrasounds every week and everything is fine. My NP told me lots of her patients spot during the first trimester.

Before this pregnancy I did conceive on my own. I had all the symptoms of pregnancy and very high hcg's. I think because of my age (44) the egg did not continue to grow. They kept bringing me in for ultrasounds and over the coarse of 2 weeks they determined the fetal pole etc. was not developing. I later went on to have a D&C.
I have had 2 friends one at 46, and one at 47, have babies on there own without problems.

Good luck to you. The wait must seem endless. I know I have read stories on this site about measuring behind initially and catching up.

My pregnancy measured behind in weeks as well, and sorry to say it did end in mc... We saw the hb at 7 1/2 wks and then by  9wks it had died.. I never had any bleeding so I had to get a D&C but like I said it never measured right which did concern the docs. I hope this was only in my case but I just thought I would share what happened so you may be a little more prepared..I wish you best and God bless you.

i measured a week behind with this current pregnancy... until my 12 week ultrasound, then i was 'caught up'

and measured the right size matching up with my LMP

previous to this though, i had 2 blighted ovums/ miscarriages, and at 7 weeks and 8 weeks showed an empty sac.

had a d&c at 10 weeks with the first, (still an empty sac)
and with the next one, dr. wanted to wait for it to come out naturally, i hemmoraged at home, and all the way to hosp. by ambulance and almost lost my life.

pay attention to how much you are bleeding... i started cramping horribly, no bleeding at all, then suddenly (not to be gross) i was passing big ball clots the size of lemons, over and over.
