coughing while pregnant/puffer

I just found out that I am pregnant, I'm not sure yet as to how far along I am, but the Doctor assumes I'm aprox. 7 to 8 weeks along,
I have had an awful cough that keeps me up at night, takes my breath away and leaves me almost choking. I was given a puffer by the Doctor at the Clinic who did the pregnancy test.
But he did not tell me to even get prenatul vitamins, so I'm not sure if I should even be on this puffer, it is also not working, are there any other remedies?
Also is it safe to sleep on your side or stomach while I'm this far along?

Is the cough allergy related or is it a cold?  If its allergy you can take claratin or benadryl if its a cold robitussin dm. Also a humidifier in the room where you sleep is good too. If you are only 7 or 8 weeks it wont hurt for now to sleep in your stomach but its best to sleep on your left side because it give baby more oxygen and bloodflow.  Good luck and get well soon.

Dm is on my safe drugs list but if you want to check with your dr go ahead. Good luck.

Wait...my drs said NOTHING with DM as far as the cough and colds go...but the puffers should be fine...they are just as needed. I would call today to double check though... :)
