full term pregnancy and whooping cough medication concerns

my wife is 40 weeks pregnant, I have been diagnosed with whooping cough, and been taking antibiotics for 8 days now to be safe. My wife is developing a small cough tonight. I have medication here, we have both been tested and results for her will come in two days. My question is, we are worried she will go into labour, and not be able to care for the baby. would it be better for her to start the medication now as a precaution and stop if the tests say she has not got it? Will it harm the baby? Please answer us , we are desparate? Steve and Jen

Please dont ever give anyone especially a pregnant person any meds that are not prescribed specifically for them! Especially antibiotics(many are not safe in early pregnancy) this is one practice that has caused alot of antbiotic treatable illnesses to become resistant. Patients not taking a full regimen to kill the bacteria, so it mutates & comes back stronger more resistant to the antibiotics! CPhT!!!! nationally certified pharm tech!

I agree 100% with happynifer.  It is very important to have this conversation with her Dr. and very quickly.  For the most part antibiotics are safe to take during pregnancy, but this is not something that should be advised on line.  Her Dr. is the only person that can safely answer.  Good luck!

CALL her doctor and ask for advice.
all medications can affect the baby, but sometimes it is worth the potential risk .
