I was 2 weeks overdue with my first child back in 1971.  That was a time when the OB's were not real concerned about a woman being overdue.  I did everything trying to get my labor started.  I even resorted to holding onto my belly, while I jumped off the side of the couch.  My father-in-law even took me for a long car ride on some bumpy roads.  Nothing worked.

I talked to my doctor about it and she told me to have intercourse and see if I could also have an orgasm.  I was shocked when I went into labor on my own 3 hours later.  Was it really what started my labor?  I don't know.

I later found out from the doctor that it is thought that if you are really close to starting labor anyway, that the orgasm and the cervical contractions, starts the body's own 'oxytocin' hormone that gets the uterus to contract.

I agree with other's that say that Castor Oil can complicate things, besides dehydrating you.

My lamaze teacher says no way do not do it!! It does not work. It gives you massive diarrhea. And does absolutely nothing to help the baby come faster. But she does say to rub about an inch about the inside of your ankle, for a good message, and in an hour to 3 hours you will start contracting.. I've told this to a few of my friends and they reported back to me that it did work for them. So give that a try, if anything, you will get a nice message right? :) wish you the best!
