My OB said zantac or pepcid are both safe.  I take zantac 150mg twice a day and tums in between as needed.

Try a teaspoon of baking soda and wash it down with a tall glass of water. It will make you belch and maybe pass gas, but it works and lasts longer than tums. This has been my friend even before I got pregnant.

Unfortunately, it's one of those pregnancy symptoms that likes to stick around. Its usually at its worse around the third trimester and pretty noticeable in your first trimester. Talk to your OB about what may be safe to use on your pregnancy. In general, Tums are generally considered safe in pregnancy. Although they may not work for very long periods of time but your OB can recommend a medication that better suits your pregnancy. I had horrible heartburn in my last pregnancy, I would literally choke on pure acid (very gross, I know!) But after I delivered..I had sudden abdominal pain. I ended up having severe gallbladder stones and had my gallbladder removed the next day. But I had heartburn in all my pregnancies even this current pregnancy (without my gallbladder), so it's common and will ease up eventually after giving birth.

It could last the whole pregnancy. It's safe to take tums for heartburn. It helps me tremendously.
