high blood pressure & 1st trimester

by L J, Sep 11, 2007 11:34PM
I have reduced kidney function and with my other children, my blood pressure would be elevated in the third trimester. Although I didn't actuallly develop high blood pressure until I actually went into labour. I had a miscarriage four months ago as the fetus was slow to develop, dates were 11 weeks but fetus was only 6wk 2d.I am now pregnant again, but I am in my first trimester and my blood pressure is already elevated. 140/90 to 150/100. What are the precautions I should take? Is there any medications that are safe?

i have been taking lopressor for years for a fast heartrate and axiety, but the medicatin is a beta blocker for high blood pressure, my OB researched his medication book and said in his book it is a caterogory b, though it had been a C , and does not see any concern for the continued use. The medication had not had a lot of research on it for  pregnancy. I take a very small amount 12 mg most people will take 50mg twice daily or more. But ask about this... if the benefit to use sounds like it would out weigj the risk ... since that is small!@ good luck to  you
