hypothyroid and 8weeks pregnant. Taking Synthroid.

Does anyone have any experience with this? The levels were 5 then they raised the meds from 112 to 125 and it rose to 6.13, so we go to an endo who wants to wait another month before raising it again. Took a panel fri at the obgyn and doing one this thurs for the endo, if the levels are still rising what should I do: wait 3 more weeks for the endo while the brain is being developed or take some of my extra ones to bring the levels up. I have some 88s that I could cut in half. The Doctors don't seem to mirror what I'm reading. Are these levels doing damage? The endo says the baby will get the thyroxine before the mother but he's old and from Jordan (but on our insurance and local unfortuanately.) Any advice is Greatly Appreciated!

I have hypothyroidism too and am taking Synthroid.  When I was pregnant the 2nd time ( sadly m/c'd ) I asked my GP whether I needed to increase my dose and she said that she rarely has to adjust her other pregnant thryroid patients.  She said that I'd probably have my tsh levels watched but, not to worry about it.  When I asked my OB, he said that as long as my tsh levels are "normal" than I'd have nothing to worry about.  I strongly advise you not to self medicate - follow your doctor's orders. If you have any concerns talk to your doctors about it and get all your questions / worries answered - don't judge on their age or where they're from - hopefully they will ease your mind.

I too have hypothyrodism (as a consequence of a pituitary adenoma) and I have been taking synthroid. If your endocrinologist does not think you need a higher dose I would not take it. I am 18 weeks and so far they did not have to adjust the dose, however, every couple of months or so I get blood tests done to check the levels. I agree with Sue as far as the age of your doctor is concerned. After all, they are the doctors and you need to be able to trust them (which does not mean to accept everything passively without actively asking questions and solving doubts). Best wishes.

Yeah, we got freaked out. The levels weren't stabilized before getting pregnant. We went thru everything just now and that test with the 6.13 was when the gp raised it to 125 from 112, well since it was tsh5 on 88 and went to 6.13 on 112 (after getting pregnant) we thought it should've been raised more right then but since it was  (yeah we got the new labs) tsh 2.61 as of nov 1st, just 3 weeks after starting the 125 I guess a little can lower it a lot. The gp was going to raise it to 150mcg back towards the end of oct when we switched to the endo (probably good thing) so we were thinking the gp was right and the endo wrong.
Oh well the 150 would've probably gotten them where we would ideally liked but who knows? The endo just raised it to 137mcg and considering what 112 to 125 did I am optimistic. We are due back in 2 months but have a gyno in 3 weeks and they are going to do a lab then so we can see what's up. If the levels have raised again we will make a sooner app't with the endo. No self medicating, this stuff is too complicated to second guess. We even had a second lab the day after that one and the levels were the same. Does anyone know what the t4 and t3 are used for because everyone puts so much stock in tsh and ft4 but don't seem to care about ft3 which I thought is what the baby uses. Thanks and God Bless!
