My doctor said its fine to eat lunch meat. She said she's never seen a case of listeria in a patient and that these guidelines were developed years ago before modern technology in food prep. You're fine. Don't eat it if you're worried, but no need to stress about it.

I have actually CRAVED lunchmeat this pregnancy. I believe good judgememt and commom sense go a long way.... if you are going to eat it, buy from a reputable deli that has good turn over. Don't store in your fridge for more then a couple days etc

I still eat lunch meat.  Not daily but when ever i feel like it.  I buy premium deli meats (not the prepackaged kind) so i feel if i didnt get food poisoning from it before i was pregnant, i shouldn't now.

I am not buying the whole danger of lunch meats.  Ate it all through out all my pregnancies, along with hot dogs, sausage, and even some sushi.  Never got sick, had any problems and my 5'1 *** gave birth to happy and healthy 9lb babies.

This is weird that a lot of women are afraid of lunch meat. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've eaten lunch meat through out everyone one of them and my kids are fine. My Dr's have never even mentioned not eating lunch meat. Is it a certain type of meat or what? I'm just confused.

I asked early on & doc said its fine. I heat up packaged cold cuts if i bought from the grocery store but if I'm out and about about and feel like jimmy johns or subway I go for it.  I've never gotten sick from either of those places.  You could also order a veggie sub if you're nervous about it.

I won't ever eat buddhig. My friend got sick from that years ago (was not preg)

Your baby is fine. With lunch meat you have to remember to heat it, needs to be cooked first to get out the bacteria. Cook it before eating it, That's what I do whenever I eat it which isn't often but when I get a taste for it

The concern with lunch meat is you could get food poisoning from it.  If you didn't get food poisoning there is no issue.  If you do get food poisoning, there is no issue if you have proper medical treatment IF it is serious enough to cause a major problem (severe dehydration, very high fever etc)

Goodness no. I eat lunch meat sometimes. In the beginning I craved ham sandwiches. That was before I even knew about the ban. I try not to eat it more than once a week. It helps if you like toasted subs, unfortunately I don't.  You will be ok if you slip every so often. I stay away from turkey, pepperoni and salami and meat from questionable sources, like the gas station.
