I jogged during my pregnancy through the 2nd trimester and everything was fine.  They say if you do it before being pregnant then it is OK to do moderately while pregnant as long as you watch your heartrate and don't get dehydrated.  It really helped me get through the pregnancy with more energy and helped limit the weight gain.  Check with your own doc though just to be sure.

Jogging while TTC is great! I wish I could do it. Jogging while preg however was a NONO from my doc. I was permitted (while a high risk pregnancy due to a missed MC) to bike (which I did about 10K several times a week in my first tri) , swim, walk, yoga and all those other non jumpy exercises. Keep healthy girl!

thanks everyone for your feedback.

i just don't want to overdo it while ttc. i am definitely going to get a heart rate monitor if/when i do conceive so that i can make sure i don't overheat.

exercise is really great for stress relief so i'm hoping i'll be able to continue as long as i can. with my first son (in the early 90's) i was advised to walk only, which did seem to help my labour a lot.

thanks again super sally and mlb1234!

Hi,

You activity levels are not extreme.  There is no need to change your activity level while ttc.  In fact the fitter you are the better your chances of getting pregnant and having a successful pregnancy.

If and when you get pregnant unless you have unexplained bleeding made worse by exercise, or other problem that specifically would require you to cut down, you can continue your normal exercise routine for as long as you are comfortable.

Exericse actually improves your health and improves blood flow to the uterus.  The stress of the moderate and even high levels of exercise actually makes the placenta stronger and better at nuturing the baby.  When the mother exercises, effectively her baby is exercising and get's increased blood flow.  This is a good thing and beneficial to the baby.

There have been studies that show the babies of mothers who exercise at a moderate to high level throughout their pregnancy (even up to the last few days) do well on all indicators (they are leaner but not smaller, leading to potentially easier delivery) and they are also more adaptable to stress.  The only guideline is if it hurts don't do it and   hydrate properly (this is the way to avoid overheating).  In the late stages of pregnancy activities that require balance should be reduced / modified.

If you want more info you can message me and I can provide it, including reference for a book that has a lot of details about exercise during pregnancy.
