It's my understanding that dental x-rays are relatively safe during pregnancy. Plus they put those lead aprons on you . YOu should be safe. I had a chest xray when I was pregnant and the baby was okay.
Congratulations! Good for you!
It's normal to worry but the odds of having any type of issue as a result of these X-rays is a million to one. Just make sure that you tell you doctor and that the tech looks at everything at your 12-week u/s... you'll also be offered an amnio because of your age, and that elective procedure could put your mind at ease once and for all if you're too stressed out!
by the way, up until the late 60s, pregnant women were getting x-rays during their pregnancy for anything and everything, even to check the size of their pelvis to make sure that the baby could go through during the delivery!
so basically, don't sweat it and enjoy this gift from above!
Congrats to you, that's great news!!! I am with Pamela, I really wouldn't worry too much. Mention it to your Dr. just to set your mind at ease, but I know those types of x-rays have an extremely low level of radiation. Congrats again!!!!
First of all, Congratulations!!! I'm not a doctor, nor do I know if this type (or amount) of xrays or exposure is safe, but I think this early in your pregnancy, you should be ok. Did the dental tech shield any part of your body with an anti radiation mat? Did they ask you prior to your dental work if you may be pregnant? I understand your concern, about 1 week before I found out I was pregnant with my son, I drank enough alcohol to sink a ship...plus I ate sushi, blue cheese dressing...the sort of foods and drink that are harmful to a fetus. I worried so much and carried so much guilt, but my OB assured me, that at the early stage of pregnancy before any of developmental (brain, eyes, heart, etc) progress begins, there should be no harm done. However, just to be on the safe side, definitely let your OB know. I mean, unfortunately, what's done is done, so you may just need some assurance from your doctor that all will be ok. I wish you the best, and a happy and healthy pregnancy!
