heart burn was one of my first pg syptoms. Even before missed AF.  I had it the whole pg and it was intense.  The ONLY thing that gave me relief in the end was Prilosec.  I took it EVERY day months.

In both my pregnancies, heartburn and nightly reflux has been misery. Surprisingly, chewing gum works extrememly well for heartburn. It stimulates saliva which neutralizes stomach acid. It's worth a shot!

tums weren't working for me and the heartburn was making me burp and throw up...I even threw up blood because my esophogus was so irritated. Doc told me to use Zantac OTC (over the counter) 100mg 2x / day (I think it's 100mg...will check and report back if not the case) and I have been GREAT ever since. He said use the Tums as a back-up if the heartburn doens't go away completely, but ever since I'm used the Zantac OTC, and as long as I TAKE IT I don't need the Tums. But, man, when I do forget to take it I'm back tossing it again.

Tonight I had a steak burrito...(yum, by the way)...and I'm fine!! No heartburn to speak of. THis morning I had Grape-Nuts cereal without the Zantac and thought I was going to die. Took tums...helped for a moment but then took the Zantac...fine shortly thereafter.

I am only 6 weeks today, but started having severe heartburn before I even got my BFP. It felt like I had a woodpecker trapped in my stomach, trying to poke it's way out! And it felt as if there was a razor blade stuck in my throat, a stitch in my chest, and brning. My OB prescribed me something called Protonix after I tried every OTC thing I could fins. It works SOOOOO well for me. I can understand wanting to limit RX meds during pregnancy, but if it gets too much worse you may want to consider it.

Oh, and I have had spontaneous burping also! Not belching, just burping (there is a difference)! My poor dh--he is polite and never does this in front of me. OOPS :-D

OH honey, i forgot you are married to a latino!!!

Not to put my dh or any american guy down... but latin guys are more polite in that aspect! they WOULD NOT fart or burp infront of a lady... never! he probably treats you like a queen... doesn't he?

When dh and i got together he kept burping NASTY and i would FLIP OUT! (to this day i yell at him) and he'd only say: 'yeah yeah yeah, i know, im not your 'rico-suave' latin guy that doesn't pass any sort of wind, right?' hehehe
He kept threatening that once we'd get married, he was gonna fart all he wanted infront of me....

....he didn't brake his promise!

but i can tell you, he is such a clown, he is so funny.... and makes me laugh a lot... what i love about him (that didn't much in my latin boyfriends) is that he knows how to make fun of himself and a slip up).

=)

I downed more Tums during the last 6 months than I had my whole life before pregnancy!  My heartburn was terrible at night.  The only thing that worked great for me was delivering my gorgeous baby girl!!  And, THANK GOD, the heartburn went away INSTANTLY!!!!  One more perk for you to look forward to!!!  Best of luck!

oh yeah! big ole burps!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sudden ones!!!! out loud ones!!!!!!!!! =)) hehehe good thing he does it too..... who cares if he's a guy and im a 'lady'.... im a preggy one!! =)

And yeah, i've had the ole 'barf' in my mouth... specially after gobbling pizza down and realize i had to do some laundry and picking up.... yeah.... not fun!

Girl, i'd also try a little bit of baking soda in a glass of water.... that should neutralize the acidity in your tummy.

that's my only allie (sp?) in this! if i don't have my maloxx handy i'd die! i mean, it gets so bad that it feels my esophagus is being eaten by an alien and if i say a word i might spit venom to anyone near to me!
