I stopped breastfeeding my 6 1/2 month old and stopped taking the mini pill, how long before i should get a period so i can start taking the normal pill

When did you exactly stop breast feeding?  When I breastfed my babies, it usually took 4-6 weeks for my period to resume after stopping bfing.  You may need to call your doctor to get a med (like Prometrium) to move things along.

This being said, it's impossible to detect ovulation so make sure you use some kind of protection (i.e. condoms & foam) if you don't want to get pregnant again.
