preventing miscarriage

I'm 41 and 6 wks pregnant by my calculations. This baby is a miracle for us. but the dr didnt want to see me unti Jan,almost 12 weeks at that point!. with a little pushing I was able to get a first appt for 7wks. Is there anything I should or can do to prevent a miscarriage? I started takinrg prenatal vitamins. This came as a surprise for us, we gave up trying years ago this baby is likely our last chance.

Not really.  Well, I suppose the only thing is that if you have low progesterone you can take supplements (I had to from week 5-10).  But typically most mc are set in motion from the very beginning and will happen no matter what....usually a chromosomal abnormality.

It really shocks me that a doctor won't see someone who is 41 at least for blood work.  I'm 45, btw, and 12w2d pregnant and my doctor saw me 2 days after I called (which was 2 days after I got my BFP) and he has seen me every single week since week 6 for a scan.  I know that's pretty unusual but I've had 3 m/c's so I think that's why.  But the bloodwork should be standard for anyone. I don't get that.

Good luck and congratulations!!

Thank you for the well wishes, and Congratulations and good luck to you to. I don't have a reg GP.  so I asked other Moms about their OB.  I thought it was strange to that I couldnt get an appt before Jan. I mustve called 8 Drs. Then I tok my Uncle to an appt at a multi dr facilty and went to the OB dept and became gradually unstable until they gave me an appt. (i emotionally blackmailed them) But reading these forums did get me worried about progesterone also. I think I may need to keep searching for a Dr.

Im having the same issue with OB docs where I live!! I was diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage as my progesterone level is to low for a viable pregnancy. Of course all this happened Friday and I was just passed off I feel! Im so upset and plan on doing an emotional blackmail myself and adding the word neglect as well! Good luck to  you-Im calling them at 8am sharp! (((hugs))))~Bkitty

I feel that often Drs don't want to get involved in early pregnancies due to the higher risk of mc. It's like they are avoiding any possible responsibility for it. It's so sad. Keep looking for a compassionate Dr who will walk you through the whole pregnancy and hold your hand to make it a better experience.

today, I couldnt stop worrying about progesterone. so I went to the Urgent Care near my job. They were so nice and efficient and the Dr said he would rush my bloodwork and to come back tomorrow. I feel so much better having seen him even though he isnt an OB. he took the time to answer alot of my questions

Hope your blood work comes back great tomorrow.  I am a week behind you, 5 weeks. I am 43! I am on a blood thinner, progesterone and baby aspirin to help with this baby.  I have an immune dr who put me on this protocol.  Sending hugs!
