slow rising HCG levels

Hi, I'm almost 35 and I took a home pregnancy test on June 30, 2009 and it came back positive, I was having bad bleeding so I went to the ER on July 1, 2009 and was checked that day my uterus was open a finger and I was showing signs of blood from the uterus, my HCG levels that day were 1300, I had an ultrasound and more bloodwork the next day and my HCG was 1600 and my US showed nothing, Also the Bleeding stopped this day it was thursday, Friday a transvaganal US showed nothing and my level was at 2050, they ordered more blood work and more US for the this week.
Monday 6, 2009 my HCG levels were at 3900. Today Friday 10, 2009 my HCG levels were in the 9000 and both types of US still show nothing, they said there is nothing in the uterus and def nothing in the tubs.

They told me they are very concerend that my levels were not doubling every 2 days, looks like they are doubling every 3.5 days and from my last menstral cycle on May 18, 2009 (33 day cycles). I should be about 7 weeks.

Anyone else have slow rising numbers, or concerns like this, I'm very nervous but ready both days, I think it's good they are still rising but concerned over then not finding anything swimming in the US.

I'm so sorry to hear it was in fact ectopic.  If you have any pain at all tonight or feel clammy, faint or lightheaded, go straight to the hospital, please do not wait.  Two days can make a big difference.  My doctor would not let me even go home after my appt at the clinic - we went straight to the hospital for surgery.  I don't mean to scare you but ectopic pregnancies account for 6% of all maternal deaths (I just read that in the new england journal of medicine) so it is a very serious matter. Plus the sooner they treat it the more likely they can save your tube.

I'm glad they are taking you in tomorrow.  I agree with Debbie, it is not a great idea to wait.  I'm sorry it has ended with bad news.  I will keep you in my thoughts.

I'm very surprised they are waiting 2 days to get this moving.  An Ectopic pregnancy is NOTHING to mess with.  I had one as well.  It can rupture your tube and you can bleed to death.  It's really nothing to play with.  If your numbers are going up then it's still growing and 2 days can make a huge difference.  I would have my doctor to act NOW!  Sorry, I hope I'm not scaring you, but 2 days can do some major damage.  Do all you other ladies agree???

Well they were able to finally see the pregnancy today, and it's an ectopic..I'm going to be seeing a specialist in the next day or 2 to get an action plan going.
Thanks for all the information, maybe next time you see me I'll have success.

Congrats to everyone.

I have to say that I agree with Tanker.  It could be in the tubes.  I just went through this myself.  My HCG was going up, but did not double, then it did double.  After some major pain last week I had an ultrasound and the doctor could not find a sac in the uterus.  In fact he could not see a sac ANYWHERE by ultrasound until he actually did the lap surgery where he found it in my right tube. (I also have a tilted uterus)  It was scary.  If  you start having any pain be sure to go to the doctor right away.  Do not wait!  If you have HCG in your system you are pregnant and at those levels they should be seeing something.  If it is not in the uterus then it is somewhere else.  Be careful.

I had my levels tested again today 10 days after the last levels...Today they were 32,501.5. They seem to have gone from doubling every 3.5 days to now doubling every 5.5 days.
I have no pain, no bleeding, Nothing, Just that bleeding after the first episode and my levels at the time were 1300.
I'm so confused this waiting is tourcher...My Dr now wants to wait till Friday and do another blood test and an ultrasound.
I don't know how much more waiting and not knowing I can handle.

thanks for the Response Tanker Chick..This is all good information to know. My Dr did tell me that as well about ectopic. I never thought of the tilted uterus and that runs in the family, all my aunts have a tilted uterus. I've had 3 different doctors explain miscarrage and etopic to me. I on the fence 50/50 I have all the symptoms of pregnancy and I feel pregnant, but at the same time I KNOW it's probably not be viable pregnancy from what my Dr and everyone else is telling me. Wish there was a test they could do to tell you right away, that would make life easy.

I'm sorry to say this, but they cannot say that pregnancy is definitely not in the tubes.  I would be very concerned if I were you.. you hcg is high enough that if it was in the uterus there should be something there.. I have heard stories of a tilted uterus making it harder to find baby.. but usually with slow rising hcg and nothing in the uterus it could very likely be ectopic.. if your tube ruptures it can be dangerous...

I had an ectopic pg and they never could see it in the tube but because my hcg was rising slowly and there was nothing in the uterus, they decided it was ectopic.. I was treated with methotrexate for it but it didn't work.. my tube did rupture and it had to be removed.. while they were removing it, they took pictures of it and it was huge compared to normal size and that never showed up on an ultrasound.. the only reason they new it ruptured was because of my symptoms and there was blood in my abdomen..

I'm not saying this is the case with your pg, but it could be and I would be very mindful of the symptoms.. if you start feeling a strange radiating pain in your shoulder or chest you need to get to the ER very quickly...

Hi there, thanks for the responses it's nice to get feedback from other people..My dates don't seem right to me I actually spent 3 weeks in the Philippines in between and they are saying that's about when I got pregnant, I would have had to be pregnant just before or just after that trip. I think I'm only a few weeks along, but my HCG levels being so high are saying I'm further along is what the Dr says. I would have had to of gotten pregnant inbetween cycles. I'm also a very heavy woman I think myself that has something to do with it. I am ready to hear either way, and I know it's a wiating game, but it's so stressful to wait and to try not and stess.
My cousin had no HCG levels and her ultra sounds showed she had a cist at the same ultrasound clinic. she was being treated for cists. One day she went for an ultra sound and they found a 4 month old baby, not a cist and they were shocked, because she had no heartbeat showing and no HCG levels showing. she just had a happy healthy baby boy.
I don't know I will probably have to continue getting blood drawn and continue to have ultrasounds as long as my levels are rising..

Slow rising HCG's in itself is not necessarily a problem, nor is bleeding always an issue. My HCG levels were only doubling every 84 hours and I have bled on and off most of the first trimester.  I am more concerned that at 7 weeks they are not seeing anything on the ultrasound.  By that time a heartbeat should be present.  At the very least a sac and fetal pole should be visible. Is it possible your dates are off?  Also, if you are a bit dialated, that is not a good sign either.  I am sorry, I don't mean to be negative, but if your dates are accurate, it sounds like this may not be a viable pregnancy. I have been where you are having miscarried myself a few times, and I know how hard this wait and see time is.   Please let us know how you are doing, and I wish you all the best.
