20 WEEKS PREGNANT & LOW AFl

Hello All, I went to have my 20 weeks u/s on friday (12/05/08) to find out the sex of my baby. I unfortunately found out that I have LOW AFl. My OB sent my to a Fetal Monitoring Clinic as an Emergency Fit-in and the u/s tech there found the same thing. The specialist then sat me down and explained to me that I have a slim chance of having a full term pregnancy - I could possibly have a stillborn in the next few weeks or if I go full term and deliver - my baby will more than likely past on away about 2 hours after birth.  I have to return next wednesday for another u/s and hopefully all this drinking water and relaxing has helped. I'm just scared that I won't have enough fluid again and they will bring up the option of termination again...I will never terminate my baby (I've tried for over 13 yrs to get pregnant). This is my first baby at 36 y.o. and I will do anything for my baby to survive. I just want to know if there is anyone out there with the same issue and if you are out there what can we do to help our babies live a fullfilling life?

I went to the fetal monitoring specialist yesterday and found out that we are having a little baby girl. I amniotic fluid is still low but she said its not worse than the last visit but not much better either. My fluid level was 5.93 which the normal is 8 - 24.  She is still worried but she has hope like I do.  There isn't much I can do besides drink a lot of water and rest. Hopefully the water will help her develop more fluid, but after 20 weeks, most of the fluid is urine produced by the baby. The doc says the babys have functioning kidneys, she had a full bladder, the hearts 4 chambers were perfectly formed and functioning with no faulter. Her GA is about a week behind, so instead of 20weeks3days she is at 19weeks1day. If she comes full term she will just be a very tiny baby she told me, which is perfectly fine with me and my fiance.

I have to go back every week for check ups and u/s. I will be going back next tuesday and I'm gonna cross my fingers, toes, etc to make sure my baby is alright. :-)

Ever wonder how you can love someone sooo much before you can even meet them? I will do anything for my baby to be alright.

I wish I knew more about AFI.  I am sorry I don't have any advice or information to share with you, but please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.  You are in the right place for support, and I hope all goes well.  Please keep us posted.  Take care.
