40 years old, low AMH,

Hello,

I am new to this site, so hello all.

I'm just looking for other people's experience and input. I just turned 40 last month and since we'd been trying for a baby for a few months, I decided to have the routine tests. For the past two months, although my progesterone levels were fine and suggested I ovulated, my FSH was 23 once month, 20 this month. I went and did an AMH test and it was 0.7.

I know these aren't good. But can anyone explain why I appear to ovulating with these levels? And when they say perimenoapausal, what do they mean? i.e is menopause around the corner? Also, I'm going to see a top fertility specialist next week and will obviously glean more then, but if anyone has an idea of what they'll probably say to me, or what I should ask (in case I haven't thought of it), I'd be grateful to hear from you.

Thanks very much
Best wishes,
JB

I don't know much about AMH either but I do know that 23, 20 is Very High for FSH.  Here is a chart you can look at & maybe get more info.  I wish you so much luck but according to this chart you probably won't really respond to the meds.  I know you mentioned you were going to a RE so maybe he can best advise you on your next step.  - Donna

Perimenopause can go on for 10 years.  The average age in the U.S. for a woman to finally go through menopause (defined as being a year without a period) is 51, but it depends a lot on when the women in your family do -- take a cue from when your mom did.

Sorry, don't know about an AMH test so can't offer input on that.
