53 heart rate at 6 weeks along

I just came from my first OB appt and ultrasound.  They said I am 6 weeks along and the heart rate was only 53.  The Dr wants me to come back in a week for another to see if it has improved...if not he wants to do a D&C.  This is my first child and I am 37 years old.  Am I misscarrying???

i agree with redeft... don't do the d&c if you have a heartbeat.  Like Kelly, and others on here, many have had a slow start and then improved....

let us know how your next us goes.

That's a toughy. That is really low, but could it have just started beating? Mine was 89 at 6 weeks and I was given a 50/50. A week later it was 125 and I am now 15w pregnant. I hope your baby is strong, please keep us posted (and stay off the net!)

Low heart rate is a danger sign but I've read many stories that had positive outcomes as well.  Have the second ultrasound and I wish you all the best.  Personally, I would not allow a D&C unless no heart beat was found.
