5wks after miscarriage and pos preg test? could it be false??

Has anyone got a false positive pregnancy test 5weeks passed passing the sac? My line is really really faint and i've taken 10 tests over the last 10days and they've all stayed very faint!

Hi Adgal, I just rang clear blue to ask them what the sensitivity of the test is to get a test result of 2-3weeks pregnant and they wouldnt tell me? They told me that week 1-2 is 25hcg (same as you). But i think that's what they guarantee at 99% accuracy, i wonder if it picks up lower levels as well? I'm still convinced that my levels are dropping, ok, definitely leaving now for the test. chat soon x

Thanks Adgal, You've been such a help because at least i've been able to ask the right questions now. I think your right about hte Hcg levels but i think they can be slightly elevated (my HCG is only 40) so who knows??? I'm going now to get my 2nd hCg so i'll let you know tomorrow. thanks again, sally x

Thanks Sue, i was going to wait the 72hours to see if my hcg doubles but i think i'll go down now as i'm going crazy and i wont get the result until tomorrow. I really dont think it's viable because i took the early.pregnancy.com test this morning and it had always shown a faint line, but today it was gone. However i'm still showing 1-2weeks on the clear blue and time is getting on... so i think that i either got pregnant and it isnt viable or somehow i ovulated with elevated hcg levels after the miscarriage. I'll know in 24hours at least if i go now. Thanks x best of luck for you and I'll let you know tomorrow either way .

Hi Sally,

Thank you , yes , I am pregnant - started my 13th week :)

When I got the false positive , I didn't know what my hcg levels were.  I was 8 weeks when the baby was diagnosed without a heartbeat (May 25th) .  I waited another week for a second opinion u/s which confirmed it.  I opted for a natural m/c and waited several weeks -it finally came out June 20th.  I was told to wait for one cycle before ttc'ing - so I did.  My  period came 40 days after.  I never went in for a followup after that.  My cycle had started ( I have irregular periods ) so I figure hcg levels back to zero.  Started ttc'ing after.

You know I've met many women here who got pregnant soon after a m/c.  Adgal is one. Another is ArmyPrincess819.  She too had multiple m/c's.   She told me that she had m/c'd in September and hadn't even finished bleeding when she started ttc'ing immediately.  Got her bfp in early November and gave birth to her son.   So it might be possible you are pregnant - Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted - hope we hear happy news.  ( If small teeny tiny chance you're not - hang in there - your turn will come ! )

Wow, what a rollercoaster for you. I'm sorry there is such uncertainty.  I actually called ClearBlue once and asked what level they picked up a positive at.  I had had a positive First Response and a negative ClearBlue digital, so I was curious.  They told me 25.  This was about a year and 1/2 ago.   I honestly believed you had to have a 0 HCG level to even ovulate so that perplexes me as well.  Will you get the results of tomorrows blood test same day?  If you have had an ultrasound since your loss they would have seen if there was anything leftover in your uterus, so I can't imagine it could be that.  I really hope you are pregnant again and I look forward to your update.  In the meantime, I can only imagine you are going a bit crazy wondering.  Your right, it's confusing.  I am just going to keep everything crossed for you....I really hope it's another pregnancy.  Take care and going to keep you in my prayers.  Hang in there.

Hi Sue, thanks for your response. I was sad to hear that you've had 2 miscarriages, that's tragic but am i correct in interpreting your journal entry that your pregnant again? If so, good luck and congrats- week 12!

What confuses me is that i ovulated (which is definite because of a scan) so we're just not clear whether that means that my hCG levels had to have been back to 0-5 for me to ovulate. This is why we think it's not due to the previous miscarriag (my HCG levels are 40- which is somewhat low but still possible)? When you got that false positive had you ovulated? Do you know what your HCG levels were. I'm sorry to ask so many questions about something that was obviously a difficult time, it's just that any help would be welcomed.

Thanks Adgal, Well today i got my HCG levels and there saying it's 40 at 1-3 to 2 weeks post conception, So it's still possible, I get tested again tomorrow. What i dont get is how can i get a positive pregnancy test 12days ago and still be testing under two weeks? Surely the test wouldnt pick it up so quickly. I asked the doctor about the HCG levels and ovulating and she said they generally have to be low but how low she wasnt certain. 40 is still pretty low. Does anyone know the ranges of the ClearBlue digital pregnancy and conception indicator test. I mean what are the HCG levels required to get a response of week 2-3???

Hi sallytombi,

I'm so sorry for your loss.  Four weeks after my 2nd m/c ,  the hpt was positive. Waited another 4 weeks and then it was negative.  It takes time for the hormones to leave. That being said, I've met women here on MH who got pregnant soon after a loss ( like Adgal ).  I have read that you're most fertile 2 weeks after a m/c.   If you think you're pregnant - good luck !

Sorry again, one last thing....an ovulation kit can show false positives after a loss.  The manufacturers don't recommend them until after at lease one normal cycle.  A scan is different though....I am pretty sure that would be accurate.

Sorry, forgot to ask...would you mind letting me know?  If I am wrong about this I would like to know as I don't want to be giving out inaccurate info.  Good luck to you!!

Well, I'm not a Dr. or anything, absolutely I could be wrong, but I don't think so.  You don't ovulate while your pregnant, and when your HCG levels are elevated your body thinks it's still pregnant.  Double check with a professional, but I am pretty sure you cannot ovulate until your levels get back to 0.  I don't want to create false hope, but I really am hoping this is like what happened to me this last time. And it stuck...I'm 36 weeks now.  I actually know a few women from these boards this happened to and all turned out find.  I have everything crossed for you!!!

thanks so much for your response. I had no idea that you dont ovulate until your HCG levels are down to 0- are you sure??? Because i know i ovulated as i got a scan that showed i was just about to ovulate??  I also took a test that said i was ovulating. So that means the hormones cant be from my miscarriage?? I dont want to get my hopes up yet, but are you sure about that? Thanks so much...

A couple of questions for you...how far along were you when you miscarried?  Was it natural or D&C?  It can depend.  The earlier the loss, the faster your HCG levels go down.  An example for you....I had a D&C at 8 weeks.  It took about 5 weeks to ovulate and have a normal period.  You don't ovulated until your HCG levels are back down to 0.  An alternative...in April I had a very early miscarriage (chemical pregnancy really).  My levels dropped very quickly and I must have ovulated about 2 weeks afterward as I found myself pregnant again without a period in between.  The best way to know for certain is bloodwork.  Your Dr. can do two HCG tests a few days apart.  If your levels are increasing, then you are indeed pregnant again.  If they are decreasing, then you are not.  I hope that helps and I am very sorry for your loss.
