8-10 lb weight gain at 12 weeks...Is this terrible..?

Hey ya'll...

Just wanted to ask a quick question...I am baffled and confused by what a "typical" weight gain should be for a pregnant woman...Some say 15lbs..tops...others say 25 tops...The reason being is I was so sick in my 1st tri (and basically put anything that I felt I could..usually not the healthiest stuff it seemed that I could eat) and now am going into my 13th wk that when I went for my weigh in at my 4 wk check up...I had noticed i had put on a few to say...I knew that I had..as I could feel it in my clothes...Now I am starting to panic and think I am going to quadruple over the remaining 6 months...
I am up to 8lbs...? Has anyone been down this road...I know I will not be one of those skinny pregnant people..as I am not tiny...just average/normal weight for my height...But I cant say that I am not worried..
Any suggestions...?

im eleven weeks and I have gained ten pounds sence I found out I was pregnent. My problem is when I wait over two hours to eat I would get nausea, so I would make sure to always have something to eat. If I dont eat right away I dont feel good but at the same time im gaining wait and I know im over the five pound limit they say is normal.

I am now 16 weeks, and haven't gained anything since about 13 weeks. I am eating normally, so I guess just one of those who put on weight early.  Try not to worry, just keep eating healthy and limit your snacks to things like fruit, yogurt, etc.  I think we all gain at our own pace.  It there is one thing I have learned hanging around this forum as long as I have, there is no such thing as a "textbook" pregnancy.  Good luck.

whew!! I feel a little better now, but still not 100 %..  I am only 13 1/2 weeks and I've already gained 15-18 lbs.  I am terrified to be gaining weight on a daily basis because I am always feeling hungry!!  I do hope the weight gain stops and/or slows down during my second trimester.  I try to control my hunger by eating crackers, but I end up getting more hungry.  My doctor said to slow down on food intake as this is not normal.  I do not know what to do!  But this forum did make me feel a lot better knowing I am not the only one.

Don't worry. I am 15 weeks and gained 10 lbs by 14 weeks. My Dr said some women gain it early then slows down towards the end of the pregnancy. She told me they don't want you to get over 30 lbs, but thats more for your comfort. I have spoken to alot of people who told me they gained 50 lbs w/ their pregnancies and everything was fine and they lost the weight mostly w/ baby. I have been so sick, I was sure I was losing weight and also freaked out when I saw how much I had gained. My face has gotten thin and so has the rest of me, except my stomach.....LOL As long as you are eating healthy, you will be fine.

WOW...well at least I know I am in the same boat...I always seem to be surrounded by people who are super model skinny and say that they only gained 5 lbs total...kidding..but seriously...I put 7-8 lbs easily in the 1st tri...Im hoping it will slow down now...Ive hit my total weight gain for my whole pregnancy at 12 weeks...hooray for me... and for my weight gain...hahah..
Well at least know I am coming around...and feeling more like me..but Im hoping in a couple more weeks I will be naseau free...and back to eating better...and oh did I mention exercise went to a screaming halt..along side with the junk eating to keep me alive during this ...hahah...both are a slippery slope..

Thanks guys!

Same concern here as well.  I am only 15 weeks and by end of first trimester had gained 10lb already.  I had read 5lbs is normal for first trimester, then 1 lb a week after.  I actually posted this same question 3 or 4 weeks ago.  Everyone here assured me it was fine.  My OB wasn't even remotely concerned either.  And my baby seems to be doing well, so I guess no problem!  Best wishes for a healthy remainder of your pregnancy!

I laughed when i read your post b\c I had the same concerns. I was "normal weight" pre-pregnancy. I did not get sick at all, but I did get nauseous in the afternoons and the only thing that made me feel better was food - fried food seemed to help the most. I gained 7.5 lbs by my first check-up at 9 weeks. I switched OBs and my second visit, with a new OB, was at 13 weeks. At that time, I gained an additional 1.5 lbs. The 2nd OB used my weight at 13 weeks as my pre-pregnancy weight and told me that I was borderline overweight and should only gain 25 more lbs during my pregnancy. the new OB showed me a chart and I think the minimum anyone should gain during pregnancy (regardless of their pre-pregnancy weight) is 15 lbs. I'm trying to eat right - protein, milk, fruit, vegetables, etc. and not focus on the weight too much. Good luck.

Thanks girls!

The books says " that some will gain more in the 1st and slow down the rest of the way or vice versa...so maybe I fall under that category...but WOW...my belly does feel bigger and not too mention that my chest has grown...

Now where I am feeling better ...thankfully..I will be able to eat more healthily and consiously as I wasnt in the last trimester..as I was just doing/eating what I felt I needed to do to survive...hahah...

I wouldn't worry about it.  Every woman gains/loses weight at different stages in their pregnancy.  Some gain more in the first trimester, others gain later in the second/third trimester...some gain hardly anything.  Your doctor will keep an eye on your weight and let you know to be mindful if need be.  Just remember to try and eat healthy, and limit the junk intake...also drink lots of water.  Good luck!

I think they say a total of 25-35 pounds is normal for someone of normal pre-pregnancy weight (and then a little less if you're heavier and a little more if you're a underweight). 15 pounds total sounds little to me....

I also gained about 8+ pounds in my first trimester, but for some reason, my weight gain has actually slowed down a little now that I'm in my second trimester...so far, at least (I'm about halfway through the second trimester). The baby keeps measuring fine, though, so I'm not too worried.

hi there - I'm on number 2, am almost 18 weeks and as of my last appt at 14 wks had gained 10 pounds total.  With my son, I gained 12 pounds in the first trimester - 45 overall (I started at 110 pounds with him).  Two years later, I started at 112 pounds with child number 2.  I bet I'll gain 45-50 pounds again.  My doc was not at all concerned - she just said, "you're the one who's gonna have to lose it - not me!"  She joked.  If you are healthy - you are ok.  Eat, my dear.  In the 2nd and 3rd trimester is when you really need to keep the calories coming, because now that baby has to grow, grow, grow!!  Good luck and don't worry about this.  Ignore the 15-25 pounds tops thing.  Everyone is different (every doctor is different, too).  Just try to eat some healthy stuff, take your prenatals and enjoy your pregnancy!
