You may have a hemorrhage which is not terribly uncommon. It is the top reason for bleeding during the first trimester. What typically causes it is the embro tries to attach to the side of the uterus wall and then "moves" thus causing almost like a bruise. That bruise can bleed or it can be absorbed back into the body. I had one that did not bleed but absorbed back into my body. I am now 30weeks and baby and I are both fine :)

Sounds like a subchorionic hematoma.  It's not "normal" but it's fairly common. I had one at 6w.  It's scary but harmless.  I'm now 37w and baby is fine.
