A baby at 38?

Have any of you even considered having a child at 38? I have a daughter I had her at 34, she was my first child and now my husband wants another one.. Help what should i do? I don't feel we need another; my girl is everything to me, but i still keep thinking she needs a sibling.. What do you think?

Hi,
I am 43 and had my 4th child at 37...and want one more at this age...I don't think age is really a factor it is more of a state of mind..and your own personal convictions...babies are a blessing at any age.:)

Blessings,
Michelle

I have been told that it becomes riskier after 40, but then again my own mother had me after 40.  It's entirely up to you hun whatever you decide. I will be 38 this coming weekend and I am feel that I am doing great. Good luck with your choice.

I am trying to conceive,
I don't think age is a matter, as long as your happy with your choose,

I am how ever taking longer then i planned,

so i would say don't wait to long it may take longer then you think.

Good Luck

I too just had a healthy baby boy 5 weeks ago and I am 39.  He was not planned but a blessing just the same.  My only advice would be to be sure that it is what you want.  Pregnancy is very hard and if you feel pushed into it, it will just make it that much harder for  you.

Hi! I had a beautiful 10.5 lb baby boy 2 1/2 weeks ago at 38 yrs old. He was my first, most likely my only but just because we have both decided 1 is enough for us since I don't plan on working anymore and that 's what we can afford.

As long as you are comfortable with the risk and get all the information you need ahead of time.  I would go for it, if that is your desire together as a couple, not just for him.  Think on it, pray if you are of religious nature.  The answer will come from you and no one else.  Best wishes

I'd say go for it if you want one!  I just turned 37 and am 24 weeks and couldn't be more thrilled to be pregnant.  Granted...this one has been a little rougher on my body but sooo worth it!

Agree w/ the others. It's a very personal choice as in any conception scenario. However I had my first at 31, 2nd at 34 and now am 34 wks with my 3rd at 40 (got preggo at 39). I'm plugging along fabulously.

I have been trying for two years and will have twins at age 38.  You need to be 100% comfortable with your decision....Talk at length with your Dr.

I can only comment on my personal experiences.  I had two beautiful baby boys, one when I was 40 and one when I was 43.  Both my pregancies and my deliveries were textbook.  No problems whatsoever.  In fact the doctor after the delivery of my second son said "you can't have a better delivery that that".  I did have an ambiocysis  with both of them and that was pretty stressful, but both test were absolutely fine and I got to find out the sex of the baby's with 100% accuracy before they were born.  Talk to your doctor, mine told me I was healthy enough and in good enough shape to go through the pregnancies and childbirth.  There is a slighly higher chance of birth defects at your age, but that's what the amnio. test tells you.  Unfortunately at my age there was a much greater chance of misscarriage due to the age of my eggs.  I did end up suffering two misscarriages during this time period, but it was well worth it.

Good Luck.

This is a very personal decision - one that only you and your husband can really make.  I think if you're having any doubts, you should wait until you're comfortable w/the idea of having another child since you're the one going through the pregnancy, labor & delivery.  On the other hand, that biological clock is ticking like it or not & it's not as easy getting pregnant as it was in your early 30's.  Good luck w/whatever you decide - wish I could be more helpful.
