Asking for advice about miscarriages

I am 35 yr old and have undergone several miscarriages. My first miscarriage was in February 2009. This baby was 4 months old. The amniotic fluid leaked out and the baby had to be delivered. It died after three hours after delivery. The second miscarriage was at 7 weeks in July 2009. I had a D & C . The third miscarriage was a chemical pregnancy at 4 weeks and 2 days and it ended as a natural period. That happened in December 2009. My fourth pregnancy was a natural miscarriage at 7 weeks. I bled heavily throughout the night in April 2010 and then slowly the bleeding eased off.
I am trying to stay positive. I gave up my job the moment I found out I was pregnant the very first time. I am still not working lest I lose the baby because of stress.
I have been to an infertility specialist after the second pregnancy loss. He did a battery of tests but could not find anything amiss. He did chromosome analysis for both me and my hubby which was normal. The day 3 FSH = 5.9, LH = 1.8, prolactin = 10.3, TSH = 3.6, Estradiol = 50, anti-cardiolipin antibodies were absent, Protein S was absent, the Hysterosalpingogram was normal as was the the sono-hysterogram . The endometrial biosy did not show any luteal phase defect. They supplemented my last pregnancy with progesterone vaginally administered daily. What is going on here? Why I am losing the fetuses? Can any one offer any advise or anything more tests I could do?

I feel completely down and out. I don't know if I should working again or not. I am too scared I don't was to lose another one just because I did not take it easy.

maybe your body just needs a lil time to heal before you get pregnant again

hello, i've had 2 miscarriages within the last 6 months. I'm 43 so am worrying that I may not get pregnant. I haven't been advised to take any medication other than folic acid. I live in the UK and not sure where everyone else is from so the medical practices may be slightly different. I've been told that no tests would be done unless I have a 3rd miscarriage, i'm really hoping it doesn't come to that. I have always been scared of having a baby and that's part of the reason why I've left it so late but I'm now really feeling excited about having our own baby. Fingers crossed that it works out for us.

I'm so sorry for your loss's.  I had 5 miscarriages before having my son and I understand how frustrating and devasting it can be.

I too was tested for just about everything you can think of.  No cause was every found.  My OB had me on prometrium and baby asprin more as a precautionary measure then anything else.  My 6th pregnancy was the lucky one and I now have a 3 month old perfect baby boy.  We still don't know why I lost so many.

Sometimes there are just no answers and some of us just have plain old bad luck.  The good news is you seem to get pregnant fairly easily, and although I know it's no conselation right now, chances are if there is no actual physical reason for your m/c's, that you too will have a healthy pregnancy.

I know not much help, but I wanted you to know that it can and does happen, even if it doesn't feel like it right now.

Take care, and good luck to you.

Hi Ecologic and Claude9,
Thanks to both of you. I really appreciate your support. For the last miscarriage which happened in April I was on 80 mg of baby aspirin 1 tablet daily. After the first miscarriage which was a live birth at 4 months  I was tested for

lupus anticoagulation reflex
- factor V Leiden mutation
- anticardiolipinAb, IgG, Qn

But not for
MTHFR
- antithrombin III, func/immunol

thanks again.
Good Luck to you too!

I too have suffered from multiple losses and I like Ecologic have been diagnosed with MTHFR. I am currently pregnant and I take baby aspirin and extra follic acid along with the prenatals on a daily basis. My RE doesn not know for sure but says that multiple m/c are being linked to MTHFR.

Good Luck.

Have you been tested for blood coagulation mutations? Did you ever take baby aspirin during any of your pregnancies?

I posted about these tests here:
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Pregnancy-35/Anti-coagulation-tests-ask-for-testing-/show/1160671?personal_page_id=862407#post_5321615

I have had 3 miscarriages, 2 of them could be because of the MTHFR mutation I have. For my current pregnancy (1st viable pregnancy) I took a baby aspirin/day.

If you have not yet been tested for ALL these tests, do it now! Good luck!
