Bad news??

So...I'm back on the emotional rollercoaster.  Two days after my great news at the u/s, I fell on the ice in my driveway really hard.  I called dr. just to be safe, and she sent me for another u/s just as a precaution.  They found a small spot of blood at the placenta.  She's telling me to stay in bed, off my feet and we will do another u/s Monday.  She said it could go either way....if bleeding does not continue, all should be well.  Anyone out there have any positive thoughts or experiences that might help my weekend feel better???  I'm worried sick....I have no cramping or spotting (knock on wood), and I fell early this morning...

i wholeheartedly agree with your husband not to go looking for information about this! the internet is just full of horror stories. :P

your baby is very, very cushioned right now, as many others have said. :)

Hi
I fell on Monday night very hard, broke my ankle, blacked out and landed on my stomach.  I am just past 12 weeks.  I had an ultrasound the next day and all is fine.
I am sure you will be too.  Keep us updated

All is fine, don't worry.  Babies are far more resilient than we realise, you and your baby will be fine :)

Hello-

I really think all will work out for you.

When I was pregnant with my dd - umm about 11 weeks- and son was just 11 mos old- I fainted while helping out for s charity. I knew it was coming and headed for the door- but I missed- and hit the wall- and landed on a 11 yr old (who was probably bigger than me.)

Four days later- I went to the ER- as my hand was still hurting- and here I did a pretty good break of it- my dominant hand too. They wanted to do surgery - but couldnt.

I had helped that whole week at the charity- so when I went in that day with a cast- they were pretty surprised. (Doing those cloth diaper pins was REALLY HARD TOO!) Plus it was at the Holiday's and wrapping gifts was even harder!!

Anyhow- I hit that wall pretty hard and landed on my back- and that poor child.  All was ok with the baby ... No bed rest or anything for me ...

I'm just 8 (almost 9) weeks along.  They just got me soooo scared about the blood that they found.  Hoping that all will be fine.

I've had so many days with pregnancy fatigue that I would think to myself how nice it would be to sit on the couch for just a few minutes....Now that I HAVE to be there, it's driving me crazy and makes me feel guilty about not being able to do things for my two little girls...BUT, hopefully it will just be the next few days and we'll hear some good news!

I had a girlfriend who was in a small car accident.  She went to the MD, who told her to take it easy, and she delivered a healthy girl 2 months later.  You should be fine.  Just your motherly instincts kickin in.

No, no bedrest so far.  Just no lifting or strenuous activity...or housework (I can live with that!! lol).  Also, signs to watch out for...sharp pains, bleeding heavier then spotting, etc.  I have had bleeding off and on until early last month so have had a few trips to labour & delivery, but so far no change..in other words things have not gotten worse.  And my little guy has progressed normally.  I just know you will be fine..she is just being cautious and that is a good quality in an OB.  Sounds to me like you are in great hands!  I really do believe in my heart all will be fine. You just keep taking it easy for a bit.

Not sure how far along you are, but I fell down 4 steps really hard when I was 20 weeks pregnant with Gavin, I fell flat on my belly and I fell very hard.  I went to L&D and they monitored me for 6 hours and everything was just fine.  My doctor told me that I would of had to have severe trama for the placenta to become detached.  She said that woman that are in severe car crashes have came out okay too.  Ihope you feel better and I'm sure your ultrasound will be okay next week, try and get some rest and stay off your feet.  How far along are you?

Good Luck
Debbie

Thank you so much for the encouraging words from everyone.  My husband has asked (very sweetly) that I don't get online to begin researching the subject because he was afraid I'd find negative info and stress myself out....but I told him I would just come here for some positive vibes!!!!!!!!!!  And, of course, that's what I'm getting....it helps more than you all know!

Adgal, did your dr. put you on bedrest for an extended period of time?

Still no spotting or cramping so I'm praying that this is all good news....

I hope you're fine! My grandmother tumbled down the stairs when she was 8 months pregnant with my aunt and she had no problems. Get some rest, that will help a lot!

I fell down the hard wood stairs when I was 8 weeks and this is right after I miscaried too. I was an emotional mess....It was a hard fall and I was instantly black and blue all over. I called my doc right away who said that if I were in my second trimester or third, there would be more concern but because I was only 8 weeks and no instant bleeding that I have soooo much cushioning that there is 99% chance that the baby did not even notice I fell. I did not like that answer and I wanted to see the baby on the screen...so I went to the hops where the doc there said the exactsame thing. You have to think that many women do not even know they are preg early on and continue with strenuous activities and contact sports. I would rest and try to stay calm. Hope you are not too badly hurt.

I personally think all will be well.  First off that baby is all snuggled in and protected in that sac filled with a nice water cushion.  Very well insulated in there, so it's pretty unlikely any harm was done to the fetus.  Lot's of women (myself included) have had small (or even quite large) hematomas on the placenta.  Mine caused a great deal of bleeding, but the baby is perfectly fine.  In addition, I have a small tear in the placenta that has been closely monitored, and all is fine.  Do as she tells you, but I am going to bet things are ok.  In all honesty, I have never heard of a fall being overly problematic in first trimester.  3rd, yes, but not first.  I fell at work, face first at around 12 or 13 weeks and all was perfectly fine.  I suspect she is just erring on the side of caution.  Take it easy and I bet monday there are no futher problems.  Will be thinking happy thoughts about you and that little bean!!!!
