Basil Body Temp

Do any of you ladies out there really pay attention to your BBT. Last month we did what I thought was everything by the book. I just new for sure we would be pregnant, but NO GO... .So we are trying this month again . Taking temp every morning. Should I be taking my temp from the first day I start my period each and every day.  What do you all think?

I charted my temps and cm for the past two years.  My sleeping pattern is wacky - wake up in middle of night, stay awake thinking and trying to go back to sleep.  I wake at different hours every day.  But, I know what my average temp is and I know how to recognize cm changes so that also helps to do it together.  Good luck !

When I was at the doctor's office - there was a stack of free "Today's Parent : Pregnancy" digest magazines.  On page 20 - There's a fertility test called "Maybe Baby" which "predicts ovulation with a simple, fast saliva test and can be reused as often as you need to. It works like a mini microscope.  You put a small amount of saliva on the lens, let it dry and then look through the viewfinder. When the fern-leaf pattern appears, you are at your most fertile. Made in Canada, Maybe Baby retails for approx. $99 and is available at select pharmacies and health food stores.  "

I temp & I think it works best in combination with CM monitoring (free) &/or OPK strips (pretty cheap).

CM will indicate the start of your fertile time,
the OPK strips will alert you to approaching OVulation,
& the thermal shift (temp rise) will confirm that OVulation has in fact occurred.

My theory is - since stress can delay OV or cause it not to occur at all, I pee on the OPK sticks until I get a negative after my positive(s).  You may surge twice if OV is delayed.  Then I look for the temp rise to confirm OV.  I find this to be the best way to ballpark it.

Temping is not exact, in that it is tough to do much with only one cycle.  You are looking for trends so one or 2 or 3 temps are really meaningless in relation to the big picture.

Good Luck!

I charted for a few months till I got to know when I roughly ovulated (day 15 unless I'd travelled when it would be a day or two later)  and then I just used to temp for a few days beforehand until the temp spiked and I knew I had definitely ovulated. My temp rose from 36.2 to 36.7 pretty consistantly. This method worked for 3 pregnancies (2 miscarried though).
Good luck.

I charted, but my temp did not rise/dip dramatically at all. There was barely a change. I bought the Clear Blue Easy digital monitor from an ebay auction and paid $70 (that included shipping). The CBE monitor identified the days when I was at high and peak fertility. I thought that was much clearer than my temperature chart.

Charting made me anxious. My BBT was erratic. I liked OVWatch, but I'm not sure if it was actually doing what it claims to do. Either way... I got pregnant after a year on my own (which ended in m/c). Only took 3 cycles with OVWatch.

I paid $100 for my digital monitor from Clearblue (found only at RiteAid or Walgreen I believe) 2 years ago and then it's $50 for 3-4 months of supplies of urine sticks. I have found it to be extremely precise, even when my cycles where changing from 35 to 25 days after a miscarriage.

I did it but moved to OPK.. it was much easier.. I used the digital 300 dollar one but that was like 8 years ago.. if you are serious that is the start... after that comes fertility treatments and a thermometer is a lot cheaper than the 10,000 I spent on fertility treatments

Yes sorry, and you must start temping 1st day of your period. Say you get your period in the afternoon or something... start taking your temperture the next morning and all the way thru to the end of your cycle. That way you can see where that spike appears to indicate your ovulation day and then you can always use an OPK to confirm it. But what I did was take my temperature thru one cycle and then used that example for the next cycle in TTC so I was ahead of the game and baby danced at least 1 week before that spike would appear. I can answer you in more detail if you wish for more specifics.

I can answer your question babydust. You must take it at the exact time each morning and by using the same method each time IE: Under tongue or vaginally - one or the other not both. There is a spike in the chart you should noticed about 2 weeks before your period is due. I have my temping chart in my pics profile that you can have a look at and you can ask me further questions if you need too. I used this method and other means to get pregnant and it worked first try. You will need to add me as friend to view my pictures tho. Best of luck in TTC.

I seem to remember indeed that you start from the 1st day of your period in the morning before you put a foot out of the bed. I charted my temperature a while ago but my charts never looked very nice. I was taking my temperature by mouth but my mom told me it should be taken via the rear end - not very tempting for me! I quickly switched to ovulation kits and then to a the digital monitor from ClearBlue: much easier!

In all honesty I never really got the hang of charting.  I don't think I have the patience for it.  Also, there are so many little things that can throw off your temps....not taking it the exact same time every day, etc.  I personally preferred Ovulation Predictor Kits.  I swear by them....they worked very well for me.  I know that isn't much help in terms of your question, but I did want to suggest an alternative.  Good luck to you.
