Beta tests for HCG, how many times did you go?

Hello ladies,

For those of you who have been monitoring your hcg levels, how many times have you been going in for the beta test and for how long?

Well, I've been trying to remain calm but I've been on pins and needles all day today waiting for the call from the nurse to tell me my HCG levels. I finally got it: I'm up from 530 on Monday to 1053 today! Yeah. I need to go back on Friday.

It is reassuring to find out, as I had two chemical pregnancies btw 4-5 weeks in the past.  But because I had a blighted ovum almost two years ago, the real test for me is that u/s at 6 1/2 weeks.  I really hope I don't have to go in every 2 days up until then.

I know this thread is old, but it still comes up as a top results when I search online for information about how often women get hcG tests after an initial positive test.
It's very helpful to know these experiences so I appreciate everyone's sharing (though I guess they won't' see this message since its an old thread).  So... my first positive test in mid August was followed by two more tests, about 2-3 days apart. The 2nd and 3rd tests showed the level going up by more than 2 times each time (maybe 2.5 times, but not tripling).  The doctor said this was great, and she said that I didn't need anymore hCG tests - just the ultrasound in a few weeks. I was surprised and now Im concerned about the wait with no info, but based on what I see here, this isnt uncommon -- or at least it wasnt uncommon in 2009 when the above posts were written. Theres no preexisting issue or special problem Im worried about ... just anxious to confirm pregnancy....

Thank you for your responses. I guess I can expect constant monitoring for me too then.  I was so happy yesterday but I know tomorrow I'm going to be worried again until I hear my numbers.  Oh, I'd rather maintain my calm instead of this see-saw of emotions!

Jen - I don't know if they're checking my progesterone levels but I am on prometrium because my RE gives it to all of his clients as a precaution.  My levels were great on the Day 21 test, but because of my age, my RE said it wouldn't hurt.

Wanting4#1 - oh, that is my fear that I am consciously trying to remove from my mind.  When I had my blighted ovum, it felt like a terrible trick on me to be feeling all day nausea when I know I had an empty sac....my hcg levels were never checked that time so I don't know whether there is a correlation btw them.

Thank you again ladies.

this time around I had them 2x per week for the first 2.5 weeks to make sure they were doubling and to get me to my first appt without freaking out too bad.  But I'm like udbe2 - I had 4 m/c before my DD so they monitor me pretty close to make sure things look good.  Once I had my 1st u/s they stopped the hcg because they confirmed the pg is in the uterus and now we just go back for another u/s next week!

I only had two tests, once they saw that the number was above 1000, no more blood tests! ;)  I also had a blighted ovum with my first pregnancy and so I completely understand what you are saying about the first u/s!  I was a MESS going into it and was almost in shock when the tech said 'There's your baby!'...

Congrats on your pregnancy and enjoy every second!! :)

Let's see - I had three betas - when the number got over 2000, they stopped checking the beta and just kept checking the progesterone level.  Our next step was the 7 week u/s.

Are you getting your progesterone checked?  It might not be a bad idea - jen

My dr likes to test mine every other day but I've had 7 m/c so they love to watch the numbers until they can get them high enough to confirm with u/s that everything is okay.

I also only had two blood tests. One 10 days after transfer (I did IVF), and then another one 2 days after that, which more than doubled. Then nothing until my 7-week ultrasound. By the way, your numbers look great! Best of luck with everything!

When I first found out I was pg, my beta was 40 at 14dpiui. I think my RE was worried it was too low b\c he had me come back 5 more times over the next 2 weeks. After a couple of blood draws, my beta was doubling every 48 hours and he scheduled the 6 week u/s. After that, my RE did not have me come in for another blood draw.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

When i had a suspected ectopic they checked me every 48 hours for over a week.. They suspected ectopic because the numbers were not even coming close to doubling and it did end up being ectopic..

For my other two pregnancies.. they tested me twice and when the numbers doubled they did not test again but they did do an u/s at 5wk2d to confirm pregnancy was in the uterus.

Congrats on your numbers!!
