Confused, When does the 2nd trimester start?

Ok, so I'm confused now!!  I am pg, 13w2d since my LMP.  I went thru IVF and was released from my fertility docs when I was 9wks, but was told to continue progesterone injections and vivelle patches until the end of the first trimester.  I was under the impression that the end was when I reached 12wks.  I have several pg books, and also use pregnancy.org, and was looking at the calender, and I saw that using my LMP on the website calender that my first trimester is not up until Aug 24.  I am freaking out because I quit taking my progesterone injections and vivelle patches when I hit the 12wk mark a week ago.  What should I do?  Does anyone know when the first trimester is up?  What week?  Thanks for your help.

I know this is a late comment, but I figured I would add it anyway for other people who come along this post later...

My dr told me they like you to keep taking the progesterone until the placenta takes over production of the progesterone which happens between week 10 and 12.. so if you go to week 12 you are safe for sure..

take care..

Ok, so I talked to one of the nurses at my docs office, and I did the right thing.  I got the 12 weeks from them, they had told me to stop everything when I reached 12 weeks.  I guess I forgot or the hormones are making me forgetful!!!  LOL!!!  I feel much better now.   Thanks everyone for your support.

Kahlian, I have been to my regular OB 2 visits now, and so far so good.  Really it was just for safe measure, they were keeping a close eye on my baby because I was pg with twins first and lost one at 8wks.  I haven't had any of the lab workup, I will have that in 2 wks when I go back.

Good luck to everyone!

I am pretty sure the second trimester actually covers weeks 14 to 26 or 27 but most people feel week 12 is the last week of the first trimester, and 13 begins the second.  I wouldn't worry at all about quitting the patches!!!!  Basically they want you to take these things until the placenta kicks in and produces its own hormones and that is DEFINITELY happening by week 12.  I was on prometrium and my re said you can actually quit at week 7(!!) but they are paranoid for you and tell you to stop at week 8.  Well I was even more paranoid so I continued until week 10.  It was scary stopping but I did not have any problems at all.  You should be totally fine and your placenta should be well on its way by now.  Best of luck!!!

Did you get ahold of your DR?  What did they say?  I tooo thought 1st trimester ended at 12 weeks, but now have read week 13 is included in the 1st trimester.  I'm sure the 1 week is no biggie,  Let us know what the Dr says, and try not to worry  ((Sheila))

Thanks Renogirl!  I know that I've been taking care of myself, it's just that this little incident is so careless and unlike me!  I was really ready to be off the progesterone injections, but I could have held on a little longer if that's what I was supposed to do, you know?

Amen - you are so preaching to the choir - it always makes me angry these young girls who go out and get pregnant at the drop of a hat to have abortion after abortion - argh - our RE had us do the progesterone suppositories until he did our nine week ultrasound and then had us stop - I have to admit that I am jealous of those who never experience this worrying - they just have a nice simple easy pregnancy - as for not taking care of yourself - that's bologna and you know it - we are both doing everything that we can possibly do - so just knock that thought out of your head young lady!

Thanks Renogirl!   I have been googling and looking everywhere since I wrote this post, and I've seen the start of week 13 and 14, which makes me feel worse.  I was able to pull up a old post from someone in the forum MD asking a progesterone question, which did make me feel better, the doc said that after week 8, it's not proven to be an added benefit, he said like dumping a bucket of water in an already full container.  I sure hope he's right.  I think I'll call my fertility doc tomorrow to make me feel better.  It's terrible that we have to go through all of this worrying.  This is when I get mad about the whole process that we have to go through when others out there that don't even want to be preg, and don't take care of themselves.  Of course, now I feel so stupid and like I didn't take care of myself either.  Thanks again!

As you can tell by my earlier post (thanks for the kind thoughts by the way) I know so very little about this whole journey - feel rather like a dumbdumb.  But - from all that I have read - I thought you second trimester started on your thirteenth week.  Not sure - but that's what I have read.
