Cough Remedies for Pregnant Chicks?

Hiya!  *cough*

I'm 7 weeks pregnant today, and miserable with the flu along with morning sickness.  Currently, my main issue is a persistent nagging cough that is driving me nuts, and is making me tinkle a little too when it is particularly violent. *blush*

Does anyone know any good natural help for a cough?  I tried gargling saltwater, but it just made me gag and nearly throw up.  The gag reflex is a little hypersensitive right now with the pregnancy.  Cough drops are... meh...  I'm currently attempting to drink hot tea with honey, but again, it's not really helping that much.

Thoughts?

Along with everyone else's ideas...how about a humdifier?  I can't stand taking meds anyway, but one thing that always helps me is a humdifier.  Maybe add some menthol to it?  Good luck and I hope you feel better

Hi Lexima about your question on Monistat. I've never used while being PREGNANT.... but recently I got a yeast Infection from the increased amount of discharge due to pregnancy and MY OB/GYN prescribed a medicine that is 3 day regimen and work GREAT, the name is TERCONAZOLE Vaginal Cream. I was also prescribed this 3day regimen medicine for yeast infection for my first pregnancy which was from another OB/GYN.

BEST OF LUCK, I HOPE I'M NOT RESPONDING LATE TO YOUR QUESTION.

I have this nasty cough that wont let me sleep...i've read afew natural remedies online and one included 8oz of orange juice with 2 tbsp of honey and A LITTLE BIT of lemon  IF DESIRED, 2 to 3 times daily and this should thin out mucus along with plenty of water.

GOOD LUCK TO THOSE MOMMY'S WITH COUGH AND HOPE THIS WORKS ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE YOU FIND.

Sheri - LOL, You made me laugh.  But some days I feel the same way.  Try prune juice, it might work faster.

Since you guys are on meds topic here can I ask a question and sorry for TMI.  I'm 9 weeks and still on Progesterone, which from time to time makes it feel like I have a yeast infection.  RE said that I can use over the counter monistat stuff.  But I wanted to see if anyone else has used it while pg?

Girrrrrlll... I NEED a laxative now!  My coughing has improved dramatically, but I can't poop for the life of me!  It's the combination of Zofran, Progesterone, and Prenatals.  TMI, but yesterday I felt like I was trying to pass a watermelon and ended up with a raisin. *sigh*

I'm onto prunes now, which only serves to make me windy AND constipated!!

I was advised to not use cough drops during pregnancy. Honey works. I used candy peppermints ( or any hard candy ) and drank fluids. It's so easy to get dehydrated! Also, don't talk when you have a nagging cough, it only makes it worse!

Hmm.. I thought Guanifenisin was a no no when pregnant?  That's what's in mucinex and robitussin. I suppose you have to weigh everything out.

I've been SO ill with the flu AND morning sickness!  Last night I coughed and coughed and finally got bad asthma. I have an inhaler, but I was too scared to use it.  Right now I'm in between doctors.  My RE is done with me now that I'm preggers, and my new OB/GYN doesn't see me for the first time until next week, so I wasn't sure who to call and ask!

I have been checking myself all day for bleeding because I'm convinced all this coughing has knocked the poor baby loose! :P

I also think you should ask your dr for something to take care of your cough, bless your heart.  I had bronchitis a few weeks ago & took some Tussin (prescription strength) for it & I grilled both my dr and pharmacist (which happens to be my dh) about it being safe for pregnant women which they assured me it was.  I hope you get to feeling better really, really soon!!

When I feel a cold or cough coming on I take "King Bio Natural Medicine *Colds & Flu*", it's just a spray that you spray in your throat several times a day. It's all natural and alcohol free with no side effects. It's good for fever, chills, achiness, nausea, fatigue, headaches, congestion, coughs and sneezing. It is really expensive but that's what we take in my family and it seems to be working. My son HATES taking RX cough medicine but loves this stuff because it has no taste what-so-ever! I get mine at a health food store or an organic pharmacy.

I should add- it does say on the bottle if pregnant or nursing, take only on advice of physician, but mine has never said I could not take it, and a friend of mine that is a midwife advises all her patients to take it, so it must be okay. I haven't had any problems with it or because of it and it seems to work for all of us!

Good Luck, Hope you feel better soon!!

I have a miserable cold right now too and my doctor okay'd Robitussin DM, and over the counter cough drops. Unfortunately, neither work completely and I still have coughing fits that make my stomach muscles hurt terribly. This baby is getting squeezed and shaken around during my coughing fits too. I'm hopeful that I'll get a little better every day though. I've also tried warm water with honey, warm apple juice, and even just plain warm water, they all help just a little. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything that completely suppresses the coughing. Just have to let it run it's course. Good luck.  (29w4d)

sweetie.. I tried everything all natural.. I would go to the dr and get something fast.. I had it for three weeks!! and all got worse..
I spent more time in the bathroom cleanning up after myself from peeing after every cough... omg.. I would empty my bladder and damn it a cough would come and I would even pee then.. it was like my cough was squeezing my bladder dry..
my poor baby never got a nights rest.. not worth it.. It could turn just like mind did for the worse...
I hope it doesnt get out of control like mine did... Im still coughing but just alittle. good luck with yours..you can try honey... but it really didnt help me any. I would go get something from your dr just to kick it out fast.
