My RE will continue supporting a pregnancy as long as the number are going up. If they decline, then he says that's his benchmark that the pregnancy is not viable.
What does your doctor say about your slow rising? Amanda has a good question, do you remember the actual numbers? Once they reach a certain number, then they won't normally have that 66% increase over 48-72 hours, it will be lower than that.
Just a note on HCGs, a lot of docs don't even test for them unless there has been a previous m/c or some other warning sign, because they really just are not that reliable as a measure of how the pregnancy will proceed. A good u/s with a strong heartbeat is a much better indicator.
I tried to set aside my high HCG levels because it was beginning to cause me to worry that my son had some kind of abnormality. I even spent about a week waiting for my u/s and thinking that I had an ectopic pregnancy. In hindsight, I regret that I put myself through that fretting.
Hi Allie - thanks for telling me your HCG levels. I am crossing my fingers my slow rising HCG just means its a boy!
I am not sure of my HCG levels- but can tell you- that with my two boys- I WAS MUCH LESS SICK than with my girls. I was sick/fainting (actually broke a bone) and also had terrible yeast infections and preterm labor with the girls....
What were the actual numbers for each set? Also, how far along are you. Going up 50% in 72 hours is not problematic depending on where you were at.
Mom, what were your HCG levels like if you can recall? Was the percentage less than 66% in 48 hours or 72 hours?
Hi Kristin, according to a HCG calculator - mine is only a 50% increase over 72 hours. Though I am puzzled. The time difference between my two tests were only 65 hours - so technically - shouldnt it be more than 50%?
That is a new one on me as well. I think my HCG's were pretty much textbook. They started out rising very quickly..doubling every 24 hours or something, then to go from 1000 to 4000 took a week (doubling time every 82 hours or something like that). That is considered normal and I am having a boy. I am wondering what you consider slow rising HCG levels. Remember they only double every 48-72 hours up to about 1200. Then they will often slow considerably...that is considered normal.
Hi there-For us this was definately true! We were so worried-first beta was 125 after IVF. Next one (after 48 hours) was only 210. I can't remember what the others were but i was getting blood work done for a week and they were very slow rising-sometimes not even the 66% every 72 hours. At 6 weeks we had an u/s and there was our little boy. We go for our 20 week next week and so far so good. Best of luck to you!!!
How slow rising are your levels? Have they increased by at least 66% over a 48-72 hour period?
Hmmm...have never heard of that one. My rate of increase was concerning my dr. so they sent me in for an u/s. Levels were good for how far along I was, but increase percentage was in question...So far, at 8 weeks, everything is great. Heartbeat was 165 and measurements were right on track. I have two girls, and while we are happy with either sex as long as it is healthy, my husband may be quite interested in this stat you found online....lol. Good luck and keep us posted.
Wow!!! tats very cool! I read it on some internet research that low HCGs are more likely to be boys than girls thats why i was wondering if thats an explanation for my low HCG. Thanks for replying!
I hadn't heard that one. My HCG level was through the roof, I was at something crazy like 48,000 by 7.5 weeks, and I'm having a boy. :)
