Dairy

I have read several places to avoid low fat dairy when TTC.  I have had 6 pregnancies resulting in a beautiful 7 year old followed by 5 m/c's.  I am trying to do all the right things so my question is this - Is low fat yogurt okay while TTC?  I have cut out low fat milk and most cheese.  I like yogurt in the morning but I can do without if it will help.  Thanks
Suz

Hi,

I think when TTC it is important to have enough healthy fats in your diet.  This means sticking to regular fat foods (regular dairy products are fine), and don't try to eat less fat.

Just stick to a healthy diet, with plenty of natural (fruits, veges, nuts, meats) minimally processed foods.  Keep away from transfats - which are man made fats and present in many processed foods.

Go to Westonprice website if you are interested, it has a lot of info about fats in our diet.  Very interesting.

Keep exercising.

Best wishes

There was a study that just came out through webmd and CBS on Sept. 5th re: dairy and pregnancy. It just talked about high fat dairy being a link to fertility.  Check it out and see if any of it makes sense to you guys...

I never heard to cut out low fat dairy either.  In fact, it's recommended to eat all dairy, except what Amanda said, nothing unpasturized (blue cheese, brie, soft cheeses, certain lunch meats, etc).  If you are lactose intolerant, that's another story.  Your OB/GYNs should provide you with a list of unsafe foods to avoid during pregnancy.  Happy pregnancy!  Pam

Hmm, I can't find anything about low fat dairy being a bad idea.  I have always read that its any dairy that is unpasturized. that can be harmful, because of the possible bacteria.  I eat a tonne of cheese, yogurt, etc.  I will tell you that when you are pregnant I don't think you need to stick to low fat (correct me if I am wrong ladies), I think the extra calories are fine.  But again, I am not a Dr.  I would be curious to know where you heard to stay away from low fat?  I too have experienced m/c and will cut it out if it were to help.
