I just had the genetic screening at 12 weeks and got my results. I had all great news. For someone my age, chance of downs is 1:240. My results showed that I have a 1:3455 chance of downs. Trisomy 13 / 18 my chance based on my age was 1:400 but with my test results I am actually 1:8050 chance. I have set my mind at ease and I got to see my little one for about 20 minutes during the u/s.
They will be able to see a lot at your Level 2 u/s with a Perinatologist. They can now measure the femur as an indicator for Downs Syndrome and can also check for other visible chromosomal abnormalities. In our case, the only reason why we would want to know if there were any issues was if my care or the babies' care would be any different from in utero to after birth and my doc said no and that the level 2 would pick up any organ abnormalities so they would be prepared that way. With my 1st pregnancy, we did the quad screen and between that and the level 2, there was only a 1 in over 4,000 chance of a problem. With this twin pregnancy, the quad screen is not effective in diagnosing issues since there are two babies affecting the results so we just opted for the level 2 and I am 38.
thanks to all of you, if he hadnt said that because i am "higher risk" due to age factor....ugh....i probably wouldnt be so concerned, and i am not real worried about it, i am more worried that something will happen between now and 21 weeks.....which is when i lost the two in the past.
You need to do what you feel is right for you. Therefor, yes, it was the right decision. The odds are so in your favor that all is well...only 35, healthy babies in the past. However, worry is never any good, so perhaps having the non invasive procedures might help give you peace of mind? Wishing you a healthy happy remainder of your pregnancy!!!!
well my doctor is the type that if the triple or quad comes back even with a false pos....that he will insist on a amnio or cvs.....i have had issues with placenta and membranes in the past....2 second trimester losses....one was premature rupture of membranes at 20 weeks and the other was fetal death in utero at 16 weeks...so needless to say the next 4-5 weeks or until i feel movements are going to be stressful anyhow....lol
I agree with Helen. I would definitely pass on the CVS and the Amnio. However, the Quad screening/level II u/s is completely safe, non-invasive and pretty accurate. Pre-testing is such a difficult decision to make, especially when the time arrives that you have to say yes or no. But as you said, you had 3 healthy, normal pregnancies and children, I'm sure your fourth will be just as uneventful. Is it too late to have the quad done? Whatever you decide, I wish you much luck! Pam
The nuchal translucency is a non invasive procedure ( maybe that's the triple quad?) not sure. It is a test that measures the thickness of the fluid in baby's back neck by ultrasound and they also give you a blood test.
You must get this test done around 13 weeks to 15 ( not sure ). Call your Dr ASAP and ask if you still can have this test.
Otherwise, I think your odds of having a healthy baby a very very good.
Try to relax, and enjoy your holidays!

triple and quad are blood tests....i wont get another u/s until Jan 6 and that is just to check growth....hopefully can find out the gender too.
Your chances are pretty low so there is really no need for cvs or amnio. You can do the triple of quad screen since it's an extra u/s and those screens are not invasive and may calm you down about potential risks.
