Eraly contractions but not dilated

Hi, I had an interesting Saturday evening.  I started getting contractions all day saturday.  It was uncomfortable but not painful.  We were out with friends for dinner and I started timing these and I had 7 contractions in an hour.  I called my Ob and I was told to stay with my feet up and drink a litre of water.  We were done with dinner so I am sure the restaurant would not have wanted us to hang around for an hour with my feet up.  We were literally 2 blocks away from the hospital but me being me I did not want to check inso we went to my in laws place who live 10 minutes.  I did everything I was told to but the contractions did not stop so we had to go to L& D.  They observed me for about 4 hours I was not dilated but the contractions have continued.  I am really concerned as I don't want my baby born at 34 weeks.  Hsa this happened to anyone else where they had contractions but could were not dilated and baby was born after 37 weeks ?

I'm also in may last weeks ((34 wk, 4day) with twins and have been to L and D twice.  They did give me a shot (turbutiline) and my contractions went away.  They said if I had a singleton they would be concerned, but since I had twins they said this is to be expected.  I go now everyweek for a non stress test.  The time is getting closer, but you are right, these things are annoying.  It seems like my tummy is always hard now.  It is harder to feel them when my stomach is like this.... I'm trying to be patient!  and drink lots of water!!

I'm surprised that they said they wouldn't stop labor if it started at 34 weeks. My OB said that anything before 37 would be stopped, if at all possible.

Since you are not dilating, it is more than likely BH contractions, though they can thin and soften the cervix. I hope you hold on until you are full term. Good luck!

No they did not give me a shot of anything.  I was told that since I am 34 weeks if I did go into real labor they would let me to deliver.  they did run this enzyme test (vaginal swab) which helped confirm that I would not deliver in the next 2 weeks

Did they gave you turboline(sp?) it's a shot and stops mine immediately but only for a day or 2.

I just got new insurance...hoping and praying I am covered now...$15k out of pocket in 7 months is a bit much!

Hi Court, the problem was I drank a lot of water when I was at the hospital the IV did not change a thing.  Luckily my insurance covers everything so we did not pay

sounds like braxton hicks.  I get them CONSTANTLY since 28 weeks and have gone to L/D 4x, they give me a shot to stop them and IV fluid. I stopped going to l/D due to the $1300 bill each time (yes, I  even have insurance but maternity only covered 80%)

It is happening more and I am 33 weeks (does not hurt but uncomfortable).  Braxton hicks can go on until 40+ weeks...does nothing to your cervix, just annoying as hell.

Most of it is due to dehydration so drink up!
