Femara

My Dr put me on Femara for the 3-7 day of AF . Was wondering if anyone has taken this drug and how  long did it take to get pregnant?  Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated :) Good luck to all TTC

Yes I took it on cd3-7 and got prego the first cycle.  (Also did follicle monitoring and hcg trigger that cycle)
Femara is different than Clomid.  Clomid binds to estrogen receptors and makes the body think estrogen is low.  Femara actually blocks the synthesis of estrogen.  Both have the same effect though - which leads to more FSH and LH which stimulates follicle growth in the ovary.

It's not the same as Clomid. It has the same function (regulating ovulation and increasing follicle/egg production), but it is not nearly as hard on your body as Clomid (mood swings, uterine lining, etc.)

HTH ;)

my obgyn here in Canada told me that Femara is just another brand name for Clomiphene which is often called Clomid as well...

good luck!

I loved Femara (I've used it all ;))  I had no side effects on Femara, felt like it was a very 'natural' cycle...no increased mood swings, no intense ovulation pain, etc.

I ended up getting pregnant on a natural cycle, but still credit Femara with 'jump-starting' my body ;)

The only thing that was a bit unique for me, from what I've read on posts, is that I took ALL my Femara pills on CD3.  For me, it was an added bonus though of not having the constant 'awareness' of ttc. It helped me 'forget' about it a little bit!

Good luck!

I have never taken Femara, although I have taken chlomid. I can tell you that everyone is different in terms of how long it takes.  These fertility drugs not only make you ovulate regularly, but often make you drop more then one egg, increasing your chances. Some get pregnant the first round, others it takes several.  I wish you luck!!
