Fibroids!?

Ok, now I'm freaking out a bit...

I'm 19 weeks along and the last time my doc did an ultrasound, she noted my uterus was measuring much bigger than the baby's gestational age, and commented she "thought" she saw a fibroid and that might be causing me to be bigger.  I asked her if this could harm the baby and she said no, that it was very rare for it to cause complications and it would shrink after I delivered. So, I didn't think much about it.

I'm now looking about 7 months pregnant and I'm only 4.5 months... and I started thinking about it again. Some girl at work then told me her good friend had lost a baby because of a large fibroid at 4.5 months. Great!  I googled it and saw all sorts of horror stories associated with having fibriods during pregnancy, how they can crush the baby, starve the baby, and cause miscarriage.  I'm totally in a panic now! :(

Anyone else had a large fibriod during pregnancy and did okay?  I read that they won't usually remove it while you are pregnant because it can harm the baby and you can bleed profusely.  Very risky for the mom and baby.

Don't stress..fibroids are very common esp women over 35.  Most women don't even know they have fibroids until they get pregnant.  I have 5 large fibroids and I just had a healthy little girl on April 2nd.  My fibroids didn't give me an ounce of trouble the entire pregnancy.  The only thing that they did was make me look bigger than I actually was...same as what you're experiencing...So don't worry..

Well of course I'm not trying to scare you, but I too lost a baby last year (on my daughter's bday, on June 14th, and I was 17-18 weeks)........HOWEVER, it wasn't good for me from the start. I started having complications around 7-8 weeks, SEVERE pain, and my water started leaking on the 13th and I lost the baby on the 14th; HOWEVER, I'm now pregnant again and I'm currently 21 weeks, and so far NO issues.  No pain, NOTHING, so far so good with this baby, though they're watching me closely, but my last sonogram showed a healthy baby boy, very active, and the doc there told me the position of my fibroids didn't seem like it was going to harm the baby.  I hear in MOST cases fibroids don't cause any harm to the baby, it may cause a little uncomfortable-ness during pregnacy, may cause you to go into labor early, or may cause you to have to have a c-section..........BUT from my experience and understanding it varies from pregnancy to pregnancy, again my last pregnancy was HORRIBLE, but so far so good this time around, and I'm feeling positive considering I haven't had any complications and I'm past the point where I was last year.  So if you haven't had any complications, I'd consider that a positive thing...........I'm sure you'll be OK.....keep me posted (I have to rush outta of here, have a doctor's appointment in the next 15 minutes (I work only 10 minutes away) so I have to rush now.  I'll check later for any updates

I have 2 large fibroids.  And I too read many scary things.  But I get probably a few more U/s than other women because they measure them ea visit to ensure that they arent getting larger.  Estrogen can make them larger.  The location is non threatening.  But my Doc did tell me about a procedure where they basically cut off the artery that is feeding the fibroid and it shrinks away.  Its like the most minimally invasive way he said. I asked about it but its not something he seems concerned with right now.

You might want to direct this question to ImmortalOne on the Maternal/Child forum. She had surgery for a fibroid while she was pregnant. (I don't remember how far along she was). I'm sure she can answer any questions you may have.
