Formula

I don't want to use conventional baby formula. Does any one know of any home remedy options. And is it okay to use old fashion pet milk and Karo syrup. (My granny said to use)

Breast milk is best I breastfeed because I don't trust the safety of formula. How ever you choose to feed your baby make sire to discuss nutritional needs with your pediatrician.

My husbands aunt is 67 and was a formula baby. So formula has been around for a long time. Why would you(unless told by dr) not use formula?

There are also women out there who offer breast milk for free or at low cost
I don't recommend taking chances with a newborns food supply it's just not worth it
and if you're having problems with money there's always the WIC program that will pay for any formula that you need

My family was poor and used can milk like she is asking about. My mom had some baby formula sometimes bit not always and I don't remember my grandmother ever talking about formula. She raised six kids on can milk. Also my babies switch off formula or have added cups of milk with food if breastfed around 6-8 month old.

If you're just trying to be a crunchy mama I can understand and I'll let you know they do have organic natural formula out there

let's do try to evolve instead of asking granny for help and advice

Why did we start creating baby formula?
Because
babies were dying from drinking cow's milk!

Before I had my first child I thought that babies just vomited often and that that was normal

It's not normal!

If your breastfeeding and your baby is vomiting it's because of something that you ate

If you're feeding your baby a formula and your baby is vomiting there's something in that formula that is making your baby vomit
unless your baby has something wrong with its digestive system

please make a doctor aware of any concerns

You didn't say why you don't want to use formula and I think we're all wondering why.

I would politely thank grandma for her suggestions and stick to breastmilk or formula.  Grandma used to carry baby in her lap while riding in a car but I like a car seat.  Great Grandma put baby to sleep in a dresser drawer but I'm using a crib.

They have had formula for a very long time Dragonwings. Like for over 50 years, lol.  Babies can not digest any form of cow's milk till they are at least a year old.

Milk that we drink comes from cows! There's nothing wrong with carnation milk. Ask your mothers. I bet we were giving carnation milk when we were babies. They didn't have formula back then.

They still sell pet condensed milk. Its normally next to the carnations milk.

That is so funny, sounds like people though you would milk or cat or dog. Or give a pet milk replacement.

Pet milk or carnations milk would not be good for baby with out additional vitamins. A pediatrician would be able to tell you how much vitamin baby would need. My cousin had to have goat milk mix of some kind because her stomach could not handle formula or breast milk. She was healthy and is smart so it did not harm her. My uncle swears by it and if needed I would try it. But I plan to breastfeed.

The absolute BEST home remedy option is BREAST MILK!!  it doesn't get any better than that!!

Btw, "Pet milk" is an old brand name for a condensed milk, NOT milk for pets.

Goat milk can be used but you need to talk to pediatrician. They will know correct dose and what vitamin needed.

Use either conventional formula or breastmilk. "Pet milk" and kayro syrup are not an appropriate substitute.  Smh.

If you don't plan to breastfeed or pump - formula is your BEST option. Formulas have come a very long way and greatly improved! If you don't like them, why not just pump?

Homemade formulas are not going to include everything a baby needs in the proportions baby needs.

It is never a good idea to "create your own" formula.

My son was very picky when it came to formula. All of them would upset his stomach. After I dried up, I used carnation milk with Karo syrup mixed with Nursoy formula. You just have to be careful with the Karo. Too much will cause diarrhea and too little will cause constipation.

What do you mean "home remedy options"? Why is anything you have at home any better than formula? Your logic is flawed.

Is there a reason you don't plan to breastfeed? And what is your reason for not wanting "conventional" baby formula?

You want to give your baby high sugar corn syrup and high sugar evaporated milk instead of formula that is as close to breastfeeding milk as anything goes made by man could possibly be?  Why does this make sense?
Breast milk is best for any baby and less expensive. However, some people aren't able to nurse and chose formula. If you can't nurse your baby, there is nothing better than "conventional" formula.

The oldest one in the world is the best there is... breastmilk.
No, you should not be feeding sugar syrup to newborns. No, "pet milk" is not an acceptable food for human babies.
