HAS ANYONE OUT THERE HAD AN ADVERSE REACTION TO THE H1N1 VACCINE?

Just wondering if anyone out there has had a bad reaction to the vaccine or knows personally of someone who has had a bad experience with the vaccine?

I am sorry you are having a difficult time.  I agree that everyone should make their own choices and get all the information they can.  My point is that it is always important to get your information from credible sources as there is an awful lot of opinion vs. fact floating around out there.  In my opinion, your Dr. is always the best person to assist you in making any decision about your health and well being.  I know some have had adverse reactions and I am sorry you are one of them.  I hope you are feeling better soon.

It's very easy to dismiss the anti-vaccine warnings if you haven't experienced the side-effects yourself.

I have never had a flu shot before until all the hype about H1N1 was in hyperdrive. I have no history of anything that was outlined on the consent form.

5 Days after the shot, I started experiencing tingling in my feet and hands. This eventually led to horrible pain in my neck and back and eventual complete debilitation. I was not able to walk, sit, eat... or function at all as I did before the flu shot.

I went from a healthy person to hospitalization for a month following. I was bed-ridden for 7 weeks which was how long it took for the doctors to come up with a diagnosis of Transverse Myelitis. I think that I am one of the lucky ones having experienced a nearly full recovery at this point, almost 6 months after.

I still have pain and tingling in my feet ALL the time, and I'm now on medication which makes me more tired than I used to be.

Look up Transverse Myelitis on You Tube. Watch the videos of the people learning to walk again after their ordeal. It's similar to Guillain-Barre which is even worse than TM.

I still believe that everyone should make their own choices about vaccinations, but don't discredit the warnings. They are very real.

Hi Amanda!   Hummmm  Who would of thought? You are absolutely right! research, research and more research! There are sure a lot of wack jobs out there so be careful!  I'm so glad to hear that everything is going well with your shot and no weir reactions with you or the baby! Thank God!  As you know I'm completely on the opposite side of the fence when it comes to the vaccine. I just wish that I felt more positive about it and wish that I could trust it more,  that doesn't seem likely in the near future. Oh well, I guess we all have to do what we have to do to survive in this crazy world we live in. Keep on being healthy and Happy Holidays!  :)   Butterfly kisses for that little angel!!!!     Alba

Wow, who would have thought one topic could spark so much controversy.  I guess the best we can do is do our homework, talk to our Dr.s, look at our own personal situation and make the best decision we can based on the information available.  I have a cousin close to me that is on the fence about having her daughter (she is almost 2) vaccinated.  Her words said it all..."if I don't get her vaccinated and she gets really sick or dies from the virus, I will never forgive myself.  However, if I do get her vaccinated and she has a negative reaction that's severe,  I will also never forgive myself."  Not an easy decision.  I made mine based on the fact that I work in a high risk job, my OB's advice and Dr.'s I work with advice.  I feel good about it still and believe I did the right thing.  But it certainly wasn't a decision I took lightly.  I just felt that based on what I knew, it was the best decision for me and for my unborn child.   I personally would not rely on information on the internet unless I knew it was from a credible source.  Like any other issue, you can always find a sight that will feed into your natural fears.  Make sure your info is coming from a credible source then weigh the pro's and con's and what the best decision is for you personally.  It may differ from what is right for someone else.  Good luck all and stay healthy!!!

You know, a lot of people who are not going to get the flu shot as I, will not consider it. We understand that people will not just drop dead after getting the vaccine. (actually some might) depending on how sever the allergic reaction is. But this is the thing, no one knows what long term effects this vaccine will have. Not only on the adult receiving it but for the unborn child.  The only real way you will not is to wait and see a year from now to see the reaction that babies as well as moms and dads have. Again, I was devastated to read the posts on the immunization and vaccination forum. I had no idea it was "that" bad already!!  I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but in sight of this forum and what is happening to these women the incidences will only increase in time.  You will see as posts start to come in. I definitely will keep reading on that forum so I will be abreast of what is happening out there. God knows that I will not get the truth from the news that's a given!  Good Luck to those who are getting the vaccine and God Bless those who have gotten it!  I mean that sincerely!

It's crazy how people act like you'll drop dead if you get a vaccine...If that were the case, half our population of kids would be gone.  Quinns Momma, I hope you take good care of yourself and get better!  I agree with Tobbeyj and I'm so glad I got the vaccine!

I do not read anymore anti-H1N1 vaccine threads on the internet: it gets too much on my nerve! What these people 'forget' to mention is that Guillain Barré is mostly a complication of an infection or the flu itself - not vaccines! And that for pregnant women, having a flu (any flu) can have devastating consequences on a pregnancy: early on it can cause miscarriages and later on serious brain retardation in the fetus.

I am 30 weeks pregnant with a confirmed case of H1N1. The vaccine was available in my area for only a short time and I was unable to get it. Now it is too late. I would give anything to have gotten the vaccine. Until you are actually sick with it you have no idea how horrible of an illness it is.  Now my doc is watching me closely to see if it is going to turn into pneumonia. If so then I will be admitted to the hosp.

Best of luck everyone!!

Heather I'm so glad to hear that you haven't had any side effects! Thank God!!!!  I was reading the Immunization and vaccination forums and I tell ya if I would have received it by now I probably would not be able to sleep at night!  How scary, I just won't even consider going there.  I feel so much better when my sister in law told me of her experience with the flu that it only confirmed my not getting it.   That's just me though. :)  Well continue on feeling great!  Have a healthy holidays!!  Alba

I had mine done a few weeks ago and did it to help protect my baby. It was highly recommended by my obgyn, since the chance of complications from the vaccine is miniscule compared to the chance of complications from the actual H1N1 flu. There are a lot of scares out there...but if you check the sources, they all seem to be from non-medical sources, while the medical community is highly recommending it for all pregnant women. It's definitely a personal choice, though...

Oh and I had no side effects.

Best of luck on your decision!

Hi there, Thank you so much for posting! I guess I asked the right question but on the wrong forum. I should have asked it on the Immunization and Vaccine Forums.  I didn't even think of it at the time. I spend most of my time on this forum.  I'm so sorry that this is happening to you. Honestly, if I found out tomorrow that I was pregnant I would still stick to my GUNS! and say NO! the the Vaccine! NO! NO! NEVER! I would rather catch the Flu and take my chances. Notice how you only hear on the news of how many people have died of the H1N1 and nothing about the people who died of the regular influenza? Didn't they say that usually about 96,000 die anyway with the regular flu? Well, I haven't heard anything about those people. Also you don't hear about the women or men who have had a bad reaction to this vaccine, do you smell COVER-UP? You Bet!   Again, this is my own opinion and others might think it's stupid but I have plenty of reasons for not even entertaining the thought of  getting this or any flu shot.  I'll tell you my sister in law and her young 13 year old son are living with a friend temporarily who just happen to catch the swine flu and she helped to nurse her friend back to health for about 8 days and she did not and will not get vaccinated nor her son.  They practiced cleanliness, and immunity enhancing vitamins ect. and never caught a thing nor her son. So, there you have it! You can even be a nurse to someone with the flu and not catch it.  I think it depends on how strong your immune system is and how vigilant you are about washing.  I so wish all the best and pray for those who have had this vaccine as time progresses you will be witnessing more and more tragedies over this vaccine.  I pray that I am very wrong!!! My heart goes out to you and others like you. I will be reading the post from the link you sent  I can not believe it has 98 posts already! I am getting sick to my stomach from just reading the first 3, I had to stop and post to you before I kept reading I will be there for a while!  Thank you again for speaking your mind! Just and FYI this forum Preg. 35+ has been great no negative experiences thus far really good members.  Very candid and respectful above all.  TTYS, Alba

My husband, 3yr old son and I, got the shot almost 2wks ago.  The only reaction my husband and I got was, it made us very tired.  I can only attribute it to the shot, because normally when we wake up in the morning and throughout the day we're both like tornados...I think we are both still feeling the effect.

Pretty much everyone I know has had it, myself included, and no adverse reactions.  In Alberta (the province I live in) app. 600,000 people have been vaccinated with 37 of those experiencing adverse reactions, mostly due to allergies such as eggs.  I had mine about 5 weeks ago now.  No problems at all.  I had my seasonal vaccine a few days before it.
