Help..subchorionic bleed & ER last night

So everything has been going well, and I turn 12 weeks tomorrow.

First some history: during my last pregnancy I had what I now thing was also subhorionic bleeding at 13 weeks, on Thanksgiving Day. Went to the restroom and bright red blood gushed out. Went to the ER then, everything w/ the little bambino looked great and pregnancy continued uneventfully until 34 weeks when I developed a huge blood clot (DVT) in my iliac vein. Left leg measured 5 inches bigger than my right leg, went to hospital and was admitted and ended up being a resident for a month. My little guy is now 6, healthy (although w/ ADHD) and I have not had another blood clot since.

This pregnancy I have had ZERO spotting up until now (side note: I am on Lovenox as a prophylatic measure for blood clots this time around.) Then last night as I was cooking dinner I felt a leakage of some type so I went to the restroom. Sat down and clot after clot after clot just fell into the toilet. I'd wipe, and blam, another clot. I thought for certain I was having a miscarriage so my husband rushed me to the ER with my doc on the phone b/c they were worried about how much blood I was losing.

Bleeding began to subside along the way to the ER (20 minute drive) and really lessened when I got there. They ran blood tests and performed an u/s. The u/s showed the baby doing flips, so much so that the tech laughed...it was really funny. Heartbeat was there and strong, which I was SO surprised about. They said that the 7th week and the 11th week are the most common weeks for miscarriage (which I knew) but that miscarriages during this time are typically due to chromosomal / genetic issues. I'm in my 11th week (tail end) and if I miscarry it's not because of a fetal issue but a mommy bleeding issue.

They monitored me in the ER for 5 hours and the bleeding had stopped so they sent me home with instructions to return, of course, if bleeding re-occured.

The doc called me this morning (Saturday) to explain a little more of what happened and this is when he labeled it as a subchorionic hemorrage. He basically said these tend to be all-or-nothing things, basically meaning I'll either bleed more causing an unstable enviornment for the fetus and will miscarry, or I'll either bleed more or I won't and the fetal enviornment won't be jeopardized and I'll continue on w/ a normal pregnancy. There are no percentages to measure against as each situation is unique...and, honestly, it is what it is.

So, gals, please tell me if any of you have had a subchorionic bleed and what to expect or what to do? I know there is nothing that can be done...is what it is, but I would love to learn from your examples.

Christina

I am 12wks 3days along and woke up this morning to some pretty heaving bleeding.  More than just spotting...more like the first day of my period.  This is my 3rd pregnancy the last two ended in misscarriages at 5 wks and 10 wks.  Hearing your stories gives me some hope that my appt this afternoon might not be bad news.  I'm so glad that things are going well for you..

Everyone, thank you!!! I feel a lot better especially after my results today (see separate post). Thanks for posting your stories of like-bleeding at similar points along the way. I thought the amount of blood I passed was so much...I almost passed out (from the site of it) and it was the tremendous clots that were the most scary. I was so afraid to see a little bean in there and I'm so happy that I did not have to experience that.

Anyways, once again, thanks all for your support!!!

I had this happen too at 13 weeks with my thrid child.  There was SO much blood it was literally running down my legs.  I had had an u/s hours before (for other reasons) and there had been a good hb.  I opted not to go to ER because I was in Toronto during the height or SARs.  DS is 4 and perfectly fine.  The bleeding lasted about a week then went away on its own.  Good luck. I know its really scary.

Okay, I'm not over 35, but I figured I could write, since I've had one.  Sorry!!

I had a subchorionic hemmorage at 13 weeks.  I started to bleed, and thought for sure i was having a miscarriage.  We went into the ER, and they ran an US, and my little baby was in there jumping around.  The ER put me on bed rest, and when I saw my dr, they continued for a week, and then to take it easy.  The bleed was there until I was 30 weeks, but I never had any external bleeding after the first time.  I now have a 7 week old beautiful girl.  Did they tell you the size?  Mine was very small.  My dr told me that these were very common, so I wouldn't worry too  much. (like that will happen!!)   Just thought I would let you  know.
