High NT at 12 and 16 weeks

Hi,

I am 22 and 16 weeks pregnant. We had our dating scan at 12 weeks, they told us the NT on our babys neck was very high 5.6mm. I had some bloods done the same day which came back the same week saying we had a 1:50 chance of having a Down Syndrome baby.

We opted not to have an amino or CVS, as we've decided to keep our baby no matter what. We had another scan yesterday (16 weeks), they couldn't see anything structural wrong with the baby. They checked the feet, leg length, abdominal width, nasal bone (which was clearly present) and did a detailed scan of the heart. Which all looks normal, however the NT has raised to 6mm, which means they've put our risk up to 1:5.

Me and my partner are so upset and nervous, we really don't want a Amnio but I don't know if I can go my whole pregnancy without knowing. We will love the baby so much, no matter what he/she has, but I really want to prepare for whatever it is. We are thinking about having the harmony test. Has anyone been through something like this ? and what were your outcomes? Any stories to help us understand this a bit better, we would very much appreciate.

Thank you

Sophie

My husband has a cousin who was told her baby was a high risk for trisomie 21. She turned out completly fine. I don't know all the details of her pregnancy or of the results exactly.

Thank you very much for your replys. We had a long chat tonight and are going to book a harmony test in the morning so we can prepare ourselves. My partner has said he couldn't think of anything worse than having the amnio, the results coming back clear and then having a miscarriage. And I agree, so we are going for the non invasive option. Praying that everything turns out ok. Has anyone had a nt this high and there had been nothing serious wrong ? Thank you

I think the NIPT test is another name for the harmony test?

I've had the harmony test and it's 99% accurate and non-invasive. They examine the fetal dna and check for chromosome abnormalities (t13, t18, t21) and a couple other things I think. It also tells you the gender. I would try that if you haven't already and do the amnio as a last resort.

So sorry abt what is happening to u. I'm not sure how accurate the harmony test is but do know that the amniocentesis is the most accurate. Because I an over 35 year old I had to take one n I took the NITP which it's in the upper 90s accurate it's a blood test only n it the 2nd preferred under the amniocentesis. I know u r still keeping the baby (which I would probably do also) but thing that those tests also check for the other deseases n some of those deseases cause miscarriage. That way u prepare yourselves for what treatments u need or just emotionally prepare yourself.
