I do not know what to do, how doni stop stressing.........

Hi ladies I have a question? I am 36 yrs old and my last baby is 18yrs old my first is 20 yrs old so it's been a while since I had a baby. I am currently 12 weeks pregnant. I forgot how that feels or what we have to go through at what time since it has been a long time. I had a few spotting here and there I never had that before I went to the hospital they said everything is fine. I have gone to my regular appoinments got blood work done ,I just did the down syndrome first step testing and today I went to get another ultrasound well I mention them about the spotting and that Dr there said that's not normal that's a threat for a miscarriage but that everything look good in the ultrasound so the baby is hanging in there which I felt relieve till he tells me that I had did Some blood work for the down syndrome testing I was like yea he said well it came out positive that don't mean the baby will have it for sure but it could be expose to having it and I need to get further testing however he mention the two ways I could rest either another blood work which it will not be 100% right or get poke in my stomach and get fluids directly from the baby and that will be 100% accurate but that test could cause a miscarriage. So now I have an appt for next week with a conselor who is going to talk to me about the diffrences between both testing. I have to say I am very bummed out, worry, scare, sad, overstress. Has anyone been through this?

Try not to stress to bad. I had the same test come back positive. After speaking with genetics consultant and having all our risks layed out. They even explained further testing available.  My husband and I decided we wouldn't abort our child even if he wasn't healthy. Suffice to say my son is perfect, will be turning 15 soon. Those tests are so stressful for so many. Just ask yourself would you do anything different if your child is not healthy? If the answer is no then let nature take its course and what will be will be. Best of luck to you.

I had the same test and was told I was high risk at 1 in 100 chance for either down syndrome or Edwards syndrome (I advise Not to Google that one as it had me in tears and a panic at 14wks)... Long story short, I was told to do further tests to know for sure.. I saw a counsellor and was too scared to do the test through tummy from baby so I opted for the blood test which is 99.9% accurate.. it came back 1 in 3200 chance which is normal and low risk..
I am happily now 34weks pregnant and no other hiccups.... I freaked when heard news from first test and it was really stressful waiting for results from blood test... but they are just a precaution when things aren't textbook perfect.. I am sure you will be fine... I am surprised I didn't miscarry with the amount of stress I put Myself under in that time.... Don't stress.. take each day as it comes :)

hey Suzie. You really do sound in need of some reassurance. The comments above are amazing btw. Just to let you know that here in Ireland the test is only available privately, the cost of which is far beyond what we can afford. I have decided that faith is pre determined and if God wants me to raise a child with Downsyndrome then that is his will. I have asked God to grace me with the opportunity to love and nurture another child, and in return my life will grow with love. Downsyndrome kids give love in abundance, so sad that we let our own hopes and dreams of how we perceive our children destroy our own blood. Let destiny take its course whatever it might be.

My cousin had the same test done and it came back positive after she cried and cried for 2 weeks straight she decided not to have any other test done because she didn't want to risk the baby. She was 39 at the time the baby is 2 years old now in perfect health not down syndrome  very smart God bless him.

The bleeding part I do t think they explained well. I had it with my last and this pregnancy as well. They call it a threatened miscarriage. It's your bodies last chance to decide if it is a viable pregnancy.  Fyi, my last child came out okay. No issues and was past due. As for the downs testing, you are a year younger than I am. It really increases more after 40. Only a little after 35. Would you love this baby if he/she had downs? If so, don't put yourself through the stress. I chose not to do any of the testing. It's less stressful that way. It's a decision only you can make though. I've heard the blood test scaring soon to be mom's that ended up with babies that were just fine.
