I have a question that I bet will stump everyone...

Get a load of this one...for the past week or so I've been hearing this strange sound when the baby stretches a certain way.  Well, I think it's when the baby stretches.  I'll hear a little pop.  It's almost like someone snapping a knuckle but softer. I don't feel anything and I haven't noticed any change in my pregnancy including the amount that the baby moves.  I know that it is coming from my abdomen.  Now, if it were the baby, there would be no way for me to hear it, right?  I mean she's in water, under a thick uterus and fat.  Shoot, I can't even hear her heartbeat with a stethescope.  Does anyone have an answer?  I'll be asking my doctor next Thursday but just thought I'd try here.

Wow!  I would never have guessed it.  Thanks Tina.  I appreciate the reply.  I've been wondering about it, thankfully not worrying too much.  I hope I don't need to be.  As long as she comes out ok, I'm good.

This one is from a woman's journal she kept during her pregnancy. Looks like you are not alone at all!

One very interesting thing recently has been hearing clicks/pops from my tummy. It sounds like a joint popping, except that there is absolutely no feeling of anything "popping", at least that I can feel. The sound definitely comes from my tummy, and I've definitely never "heard" my other babies making noise before they were born! But I have read and also heard from several friends that hearing a clicking noise during pregnancy is actually normal -- just not talked about very often! I would think I was crazy except that it has happened numerous times, and Joshua has heard it, too!

What is that strange clicking sound? Occasionally a pregnant woman will describe a distinctive 'click' or 'pop' coming from inside her uterus, usually when her baby is moving during middle to late pregnancy. This is not very common, but we have been asked this question by a few women over the years during the course of them sharing their experiences. The 'clicking' phenomenon is not documented in midwifery or obstetric text books. Therefore it is hard to know what really causes it. One plausible explanation may be that the baby's joints are rubbing or 'clicking' as they move, but we cannot be certain. In our experience, women who have noticed 'clicking' have gone on to have healthy, normal babies. Therefore we do not think it is anything to be concerned about. Perhaps it will just remain one of those strange mysteries of pregnancy?

That is a post from another forum from 2005. I found several women that experienced it, but no other answers. HTH  :)
